Hopefully this topic hasn't been gone over a million times on here before. I tried "searching" it and didn't find what I was looking for, so I figured I would start a new topic.

I recently moved and my auto insurance went up quite a bit between my car and the wifes car due to the location change. I understand the reasoning, but it still really annoyed me.

My point is, I'm going to look for a new auto insurance company. Currently use Farmers.

Anybody know a good way to compare different companies without calling them all up and spending all day figuring it out? Is there a way that you don't have to have your credit run by every company you want a quote from?

Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would say USAA, but that has specific requirements....

No military for Reagdog. USAA - out.

Is there some company that specializes in checking all the carriers for you and lets you know who is offering the best coverage and rates? I just want to make this process easy and still get a good deal.

no.

often times even what is listed on the web isnt the "correct" rate or ratings, sometimes the limits are different. i might call a place or two. you might also consider calling your farmers agent once you get a couple of quotes. let them know youve got another offer, they maybe willing to "work with you"

I've been with Erie Insurance Group for 20 years but I'm not sure if they're available in Arizona. I've compared prices several times and always stayed with them. When I've needed them, they've been there.

Make sure you're with your current carrier's preferred program, and ask to be moved up if not. Most people don't realize they've been plopped in a second tier company (the names will be very similar) as a new customer, and stay there even when they could easily get bumped up.

GEICO uses occupation and education heavily in their underwriting, so doctors, teachers, lawyers, and engineers pretty much have to mangle someone to not get the best rates. Maybe two manglings.

Check for alumni discounts or other group rates everywhere.

Never admit to a radar detector even where it's legal.

Thanks for everyones input. I think I will just call 2 different places and compare quotes. I'm a AAA member, so I think I'll try them and Allstate because I like David Palmer's commercials.

I'll let you know who wins.

I pay $160/mo. with USAA, and that's for auto and renter's insurance combined (in a medium risk area of Boston and a 2001 Subaru Forester). I've been meaning to shop around for better rates, but USAA has treated me well (and I've gone through a few car accidents and an apartment fire).

I've got an Acura CL and a Honda Pilot and my rates went from $160/mo to $225/mo when I moved. The wife doesn't have any tickets on her record and I have one about 4 years old, so it's not like we have bad driving records.

I just switched to State Farm - got triple the coverage (I had crap coverage before) for about the same price I had been paying with my old carrier.

I had sought a quote online from State Farm just 8 months prior and it wanted to charge me 250% more. The only thing that's different between then and now is when I switched I got a multi-line discount w/ my fiancee's car insurance.

Lesson: online car insurance info/quotes are not a good way to find the best deal. Get a referrals from people you know/meet locally and go see agents.
