Long story short...

The IOC bans any non officially sanctioned images at the Olympics (read: images that don't put money in their pockets).

The Australian Olympic team put up a large banner of the boxing kangaroo which they adopted after the America's Cup team started using it back in the 80's (it origin was the Australian military in WW2) .

The IOC was not amused & told them to take it down. The Aussie team told 'em to take a hike.

The IOC went to the Australian Olympic committee. The AOC told them to go piss up a rope.

The IOC was incensed & complained to the Australian government...who officially told them (you guessed it) to stuff it.

The US team is now flying a homemade version of the Gadsden flag in support.
The mayor of the town next to Vancouver (Surrey) has said they'll put up Boxing Kangaroo flags all over town if the Australians are forced to take it down.

The IOC is claiming they never told the Australians to take down the banner.

Score one for OZ.

Glad the IOC is being put in their place.

The games are "supposedly" about representing your country - and if that's how the Australians want to represent themselves they should be able to. The same should go for any country as long as they're not doing something obscene, provocative or bigoted.

The IOC is more corrupt than our Congress. That's saying a ton.

The entire selection process is about hookers and bribes. If it was about the actual best locations for the games, the locations would alternate between Europe, Australia, Japan and North America.
