Aundrey Walker (Southern Cal Signee)

As good as Seantrel?
2011 OG Aundrey Walker

ESPN.com's Bill Kurelic, writing for Bucknuts.com, says that a source "familiar with how the OSU staff views offensive lineman Aundrey Walker," a massive (6-foot-5, 355-pound) OG out of Cleveland Glenville, indicates that there is some feeling among the coaches that Walker may be just as good a prospect as five-star OT Seantrel Henderson, now of Miami.

That's saying a lot for a guy who gets a grade of 78 from Scouts, Inc., well below Henderson's 86. Walker does have extraordinary size and projects as a force in the running game, but it's a long way from that to a potential four-year starting LT.

Walker is so highly regarded by the staff that it supposedly will take him as a sixth OL if necessary, even though it only intended to sign five. (That's assuming four-star OG Angelo Mangiro of New Jersey picks the Buckeyes; he's supposedly leaning toward Penn State.)

Regardless of how Walker ends up in Columbus, if he commits to Ohio State as expected, we'll see what the staff does with him.

Aundrey Walker evaluation

"Walker's size and toughness are what we like to see for the offensive guard position at the major level of competition. Shows good flexibility from a three point stance; can come off the line of scrimmage with a quick first step and explosion. Flashes the ability to play with a flat back but at times will rise up and play too tall allowing for a temporary stalemate, which he eventually wins. When drive-blocking he does a nice job rolling his hips and bringing his feet with a wide base; can muscle and wall off opponents; demonstrates good short-trap potential and explosion at the point of attack."

Can you elaborate on this concept for me? Sorry if that sounds ignorant, just trying to learn more.

Men that size that are sufficiently athletic and light on their feet typically end up at tackle, a position that requires those traits to a greater degree, given, among other factors, that there is no help to one side.
