Auburn football: Bryan Harsin under fire from media after third coordinator change in first full offseason
BySAM MARSDALE
https://247sports.com/LongFormArtic...tor-change-in-first-full-offseason-181908950/
It has been a tumultuous first full offseason for Bryan Harsin at Auburn, as the Tigers are set to make their third coordinator change in his first full offseason after offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Austin Davis resigned Monday, citing personal reasons. The news of Davis' resignation was first reported by Auburn Undercover. Davis replaced Mike Bobo, who departed Auburn after serving just one season as the Tigers’ offensive coordinator.

Bobo was not the only coordinator to depart the program, as defensive coordinator Derek Mason also resigned, landing at Oklahoma State. Auburn hired Jeff Schmedding to replace Mason on the staff. Whoever takes over as Auburn's offensive coordinator will be the Tigers' fifth since Harsin's hiring in December 2020.

It is not often we see this type of staff turnover from year one to year two under a head coach, but that is exactly what is happening with Harsin at Auburn. Already with eyes on him heading into year two following a five-game skid to end 2021, the spotlight will only get brighter.

Shortly after the news of Davis' resignation broke, the media had plenty of takes about Harsin's tenure at Auburn to date:

Another coordinator it is for Auburn and Harsin, as the Tigers will be on their third offensive coordinator since he took over last December. The carousel at both coordinator spots are definitely something recruits and players in the transfer portal take note of.

Through eight games, Auburn was 6-2 and quarterback Bo Nix was playing really well before going down with an injury. It's hard to believe how the Tigers have fallen since then. They lost their final four regular season games and the Birmingham Bowl to Houston and undergone major staff changes. Not to mention, Nix entered the portal, though Auburn did bring on former Texas A&M QB Zach Calzada to replace him.

Not only has the staff underdone major change, but the roster has too. On top of Nix entering the portal, the team's defensive line has also taken a major hit.

"I don’t know why it is happening, why so much of it seems to be concentrated on the defensive line, but it would not be realistic to say that the number Auburn football players entering the transfer portal after Bryan Harsin’s first season as head coach is not a concern," Auburn Undercover's Phillip Marshall wrote. "It might or might not have a major impact on this season, but it certainly casts a shadow on the seasons after that. Marquis Robinson, who entered the transfer portal Thursday, and Lee Hunter, who has transferred to Central Florida, have NFL talent. That is not even up for debate. J.J. Pegues, who has transferred to Ole Miss, has the same kind of talent, though he is still learning the position. It’s not the number of players Auburn has lost that are a concern as much as who they are."
Davis cited personal reasons for stepping down, but it's yet another search for a coordinator for Harsin and his staff. It comes two days before National Signing Day. Who Harsin targets to fill the position will be interesting, as he dipped into the NFL ranks with Davis.

The staff changes started during the seaoson and went well beyond the coordinator roles. With another change happening at offensive cooridnator, one could wonder if that could trigger any other changes on the offensive side of the ball like it did on defense when Jeff Schmedding received his promotion from linebackers coach to defensive coordinator.
This is a sobering way to look at things if you're an Auburn fan, and who would have seen it coming after late October when the Tigers were 6-2? Things fell apart quickly on The Plains. How the team responds in Harsin's second year at the helm will be telling.

"We’re trying to win a championship — trying to compete at the highest level in this program," Harsin said following the team's Iron Bowl loss against Alabama. "So none of those things we've shied away from. Did we accomplish that? No. Is that frustrating? Absolutely. Is there reasons why? Yeah, you bet. We’ve looked at those things. Are we going to take our ball and go home? Hell no. We’re gonna keep working on the things we’ve got to get better at. We’re going to develop the program the way we need to."
The takes about Auburn under Harsin were flying even before Davis announced his resignation. They really heated up last week when Mason resigned to head to Oklahoma State. Looking at all 14 coaches in the SEC, it's hard not to think Harsin has the most pressure on him heading into the 2022 season.

Should Auburn falter in 2022, this will be a joke that becomes even more popular. After all, Bruce Pearl has the Tigers at No. 1 in the country at 20-1 and winners of their last 17 games on the hardwood. Pearl's new contract signed over the weekend pays him more than Harsin, a rarity in the SEC.

I could sit here at 44 years of age and say I wouldn't do such a thing...but NEVER confuse morals with the lack of opportunity.

I mean, my wife would divorce my ass and take all of my shit...BUT...I am also pretty sure she would whisper in my ear, "I don't fucking blame you" as the kids cry behind her while she closes the door to what used to be our house in my face.
