Army/Navy Next Week But What About Bowl Selection?

Bobby Hoying

It's Army vs Navy on December 10 but the bowls are being picked December 4. How does it work out if they are both 5-6 entering the game and they don't know which one will be bowl eligible after? Does the Military Bowl just keep an open spot?
BTW this year they are both bowl ineligible.

I think they'd have a spot held for them conditionally for a 5-6 team going into that game.

The other factor is the effect of this game's outcome on the BCS Standings. It's just ignored, since the BCS is a done deal as of tonight, but what if the team that barely made #2 in the BCS had a win over the academy that loses the Army-Navy game, and that loss would drop the BCS #2 team enough in the computers to change the BCS standings?

That would be a PR disaster for the BCS.

Navy already has a direct tie in to the Military Bowl in Washington, DC. If they're bowl eligible, they are in it. Obviously, they will be replaced this year (I think by Iowa State).

The Armed Forces Bowl has a similar arrangement with the academies.

I've always thought this too. And it's not that far fetched, the final BCS standings had to be revised one time in the last couple of years because one of the computers had the wrong outcome in a FCS playoff game.

Affected Truck Driver U, IIRC

Edit: Yep, Appy State game last year had LSU and Boise (10-11)and Nebraska Alabama(17-18) in wrong order.
