Record books do not display an "ugly win" catagory or statistic, just the "W". Congrats.

Thanks, it would have definitely been listed under "ugly win." Now just have to finish them off tonight. This is how the Fresno State series started off last year and Fresno State won the next two games against us. The CWS needs a Pac-10 team representing.

Good win by ASU. Pitched a 2 hitter into the bottom of the 9th when Clemson scratched out 2 more hits for a total of 4. 8-2 final.

Time to take on another ACC team in North Carolina. Should be a great series and probably a few pitching duels.

Cleveland Indians select ASU OF Jason Kipnis

Round 2: Jason Kipnis, OF, Arizona State: One College World Series participant was not enough. The Indians added another in Kipnis, who is listed at 6 foot, 180 pounds and bats left-handed. Though he's hit 16 homers in his junior season for the Sun Devils, he's not considered a power guy. But Kipnis' .496 on-base percentage no doubt appeals to a Tribe team that values plate discipline. Some have projected him as capable of transitioning to second base, but the Indians think he could be an everyday center fielder. Kipnis began his college career at Kentucky.
Said Grant: "We feel like we added a very athletic bat. He's a guy who gets on base a lot and doesn't strike out. He has a very disciplined approach. It's more hit than power, but we feel he has a chance to hit for power."

Sun Devils fall to Texas (ASU Official Site, Free)

OMAHA, Neb. - The Arizona State University baseball team fell 10-6 to Texas in the 2009 College World Series on Tuesday in front of a crowd of 24,152 at Rosenblatt Stadium. The Sun Devils are now 50-13 on the season, and they will face North Carolina in an elimination game on Thursday.
Texas catcher Cameron Rupp hit two home runs, including a go-ahead solo homer in the seventh, to lead the Longhorns. Pitcher Taylor Jungmann went 5.2 shutout innings out of the bullpen to earn the victory.
Kole Calhoun had three hits, including his second home run of the College World Series, to lead the Sun Devil offense. Carlos Ramirez also had a home run, his team-leading 19th of the season, and Jared McDonald drove in two runs.

Fucking Texas. It's all good. I can't believe ASU made it as far as they did playing as many true freshman and first year JC transfers. 17 of the 29 players on the team were first year ASU players and they only had 1 returning position starter (Jason Kipnis). ASU had the least experienced team in all of D1 baseball this year.

It will be interesting to see which players return. I'm guessing our 2 best pitchers (Mike Leake, Josh Spence) and Jason Kipnis will go pro. Hopefully none of the other guys do. If we can get some good pitching recruits, we should have a very good 2010.
