We figure they should be celebrating a national championship in Columbus, Ohio, today.
Coach Jim Tressel can begin planning a new case for the trophy.<!-- BOXAD TABLE --> <TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=50 align=left border=0><TBODY><TR><TD style="COLOR: gray" vAlign=top align=middle>advertisement</TD><TD rowSpan=3>

Buckeyes quarterback Troy Smith may begin preparing his Heisman Trophy acceptance speech.
In fact, why don't we just go ahead and start decorating Cardinals Stadium in Glendale with Ohio State's scarlet and silver, book the Buckeyes a nice resort for next January and add a couple of more flights from Columbus to Phoenix.
The Buckeyes can say thanks to Vince Young for all of it.
The Texas quarterback is jumping to the NFL, and the Longhorns hopes of a repeat national championship and a Heisman are going with him.
Somehow, it figures.
The Buckeyes have turned the Valley of the Sun into their own personal winter time share, playing in three of the past four Tostitos Fiesta Bowls.
Who better to appear in the very first as-yet-unnamed BCS championship game, which will be played in Glendale next January?
Oh, Texas may yet have something to say about it. The Longhorns will play host to the Buckeyes in a regular-season game, and there are a bunch of returning players on the Texas roster.
But not the one who matters the most.
ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. already has Young rated as the No. 3 prospect in the upcoming draft with Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush of Southern California rated No. 1 - assuming he declares himself eligible for the draft, and he will. USC quarterback Matt Leinart is Kiper's second pick.
With Young, Bush and Leinart gone, maybe the only threat to Smith would be Bush's backup, LenDale White - only he might join the draft, too.
Of course, we could argue that Young should still win the Heisman.
After all, the Rose Bowl was played Jan. 4, 2006, was it not? The next Heisman Trophy is supposed to go to the best college football player in 2006.
There you go. In one game, he's already the best college football player of 2006.
OK, we know they won't give it to him. They'll say one game - even if it was the greatest performance ever in a big game by a college quarterback - isn't enough.
A technicality, if you ask us.
We'd bet the voters would give it to him if they could.
