Arizona D-backs=Los Angeles Clippers?

Bucklion: "The worst franchise is sports?"

I can buy this. Colangelo gutted his team to spite Steinbrenner. He deserves everything he gets.

They made an awful, awful deal for Richie Sexson (who's so overrated its not even funny). Sexson got hurt and is walking away this offseason. And they didn't get anywhere close to anything of value for Schilling.

Colangelo didn't want Alfonso Soriano and Nick Johnson for Schilling, but instead wanted to help the Sox and got Casey "Bag of Balls" Fossum back. Now which would've been better for his team?

He screwed himself and his team and I have no sympathy. They could be horrible for the next twenty years and it wouldn't be enough for me. And they're making the same mistake again with Randy Johnson.

Sloop - Wouldn't be any anger from 2001 related to these sentiments, would there?

Bill: "Sloop - Wouldn't be any anger from 2001 related to these sentiments, would there?"

I have no resentment whatsoever for the D-Backs with regard to '01. I'm not a greedy fan: I've seen four Championships, and I realize that its a lot, lot more than most people get to see. The fact that we didn't get a 5th doesn't sit well with me, but I'm definately not bitter about it.

In fact, I can name two Yankee losses that were way more devastating to me (personally) than the '01 defeat. I'd probably rank '01 third on that list, but its a distant third.

And I can deal with getting beat fair and square on the field. My hate of the D-Backs comes exclusively from the Schilling trade and the Johnson fiasco. I hate these teams/owners that're so jealous of this franchise that they'd hurt their team to spite George. This is deal # 2 in the span of a year that the D-Backs have blackballed the Yanks. Now THAT burns me up way more than '01.

"so its fair when the yankees get everybody and their moms, but unfair when somebody decides to put a stop to it?"

Look, for better or for worse, the Yankees have a NATURAL ADVANTAGE over every other team. They have enormous revenue streams playing in the best baseball city in America, and the largest media market in the world. Televised New York Yankee baseball is worth $150+ million a season to a television network, while the Pirates may be worth $30 million to a Pittsburgh sports network. Its simple supply and demand: John Meynard Keynes, Adam Smith, yadda, yadda ..

Is it unfair? Maybe. But is it morally wrong? No. Does it violate the rules or the spirit of the game? No.

Being the Montreal Expos or the Boston Diamondbacks and COLLUDING to keep the best players away from the Yankees IS against the rules, and COMPLETELY VIOLATES the spirit of the game. The Cleveland Spiders were disbanded because they were owned by the owner of the Indians: he shipped all of the Spiders' best players (including Cy Young) to the Indians and left the Spiders with a Minor League team.

And all these violins I'm hearing is crap. All of you cheered your asses off when the Red Sox won. The Red Sox are as much IF NOT MORE SO, ARE COMPLETELY BOUGHT AND PAID FOR. So if you're waxing poetic and on your high horse about how all this is soooooo "bad for baseball," then I want to hear outcry when the Red Sox win. Your favorite (insert team here) was outbid for ManRam, Pedro, Schilling, etc. So lets hear the outcry, minus Yankee-jealousy.

Bucklion: "DIdn't they get rid of Finley for next to nothing too? Wouldn't want any hustle on the field or anything, after all."

The Finley trade was under way different circumstances. It was a deal where they had to dump him at the trade deadline or lose him for nothing.

Plus, there are a million Steve Finleys in baseball. There's only one Curt Schilling. You can't unload the best money pitcher in baseball and get nothing back. That's a franchise killer (as you saw last year).
