Are you a sex Offender in Lima?

OK, so now some parents will let their kids trick-or-treat without supervision, believing their kids to be out of danger.

But a conniving sex offender from out of town will then look up the addresses of Lima's sex offenders on the Internet, and then break into their house while the guy is locked up, and then prey on the unsupervised kids.

And I thought of this because I believe in vigilant parent supervision - not because I'm an out-of-town sex offender.

So if you know of a trick-or-treater in Lima, tell the parent this doesn't make the kid safe!

NEWARK -- On Halloween, parole officers in Licking County will treat registered sex offenders as they would on any other day.
"We monitor our offenders as actively and aggressively on Halloween as we do any other day," said Kelly Miller, chief probation officer for Licking County Adult Court Services.

Licking County hasn't had any problems with sex offenders during trick or treating since 1987, Miller said.
But in northwest Ohio, about 40 Allen County sex offenders will report to a probation office Saturday during neighborhood trick or treating."They do not have a choice," said Jim Wingate, project director for Allen County Sex Offender Risk Reduction Court. "Anybody under my supervision, if they're directed to show up and they don't, they will go to jail."
The court plans to have police officers look for sex offenders who don't come to the probation office during that time, Wingate said.
"Kids are out, they are vulnerable and they come to strangers' houses," Wingate said.
Defense attorney Bill Kluge called it ludicrous for sex offenders to be rounded up on the premise children will be safer.
"They are on ankle monitors, in the first place. They know where they're at," Kluge said. "Why not corral all people convicted of a second DUI from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.?"
Assistant Licking County Prosecutor Ken Oswalt said, to his knowledge, the county hasn't rounded up registered sex offenders or placed special restrictions on them on Halloween in the past.
Probation and community control conditions can specify the offender has no contact with juveniles, Oswalt said.
"Handing out candy to a bunch of kids could violate those conditions," Oswalt said.
Wingate said the idea of having the roundup on Halloween came from a regional sex offender specialist through the state prison system. Prisons spokeswoman JoEllen Lyons said Columbus has had success with the program in past years.
Allen County has 139 registered sex offenders. Most of those required to report to the probation office are classified as sexual predators and are considered to have a high risk of committing another sex crime, Wingate said.
