Are UConn and Cincinnati any good?

UC is a team with average talent. They are winning games because of good coaching (Brian Kelly going to scUM would be a very bad thing). I've been to a couple of games this year where UC's opponent had a decided physical advantage (Oregon St and Louisville). They spanked Oregon St and lost a close one to the Cards. Kelly has a track record of turning average teams into good teams and taking them to Bowl Games / Championships. It's hard to say if they are better or worse than our mid-level teams (Wisky, scUM). Just depends on which teams (mentally) show up to play (if they went head-to-head with UC). tOSU and Illinois would probably spank them (like we did last year).

UConn is a team that has gotten all of the breaks this year. Luck has had a lot to do with their success (see: the beat-down that UC and Virginia gave them). At least half of the BT teams would beat UConn, IMO. I would LOVE to see them knock off WV (although I'm not going to hold my breath). Maybe we can put in a special request for the officiating crew from the UConn/Louisville game to do the WV game?

With all that said, we have one loss to a ranked BCS team. WV has one loss to an unranked BCS team.

The BCS strikes again...

hmm, little hostility towards the gold and blue I see......

no disrespect bucknation27, but Illinois is not better than us, so your theory of that is wrong.

And again, just here to talk football and not start any problems, but who exactly have you beat thats better than us? Wiscy? the same team that struggled with UNLV and the citadel, not to mention got ran over by Penn State....Purdue? no Michigan? hell no

Not saying our schedule is golden, but just trying to figure out who OSU has beaten thats better than WVU.

and to answer the original question.....Cincy is a team that some days can compete with just about anybody, and other days be jsut a good team, nothing more. UConn in my opinion is different. they got much needed help from the refs to beat Temple, of all teams. Also, had to cheat on a fair catch to beat UL. Other than that, they are playing pretty good right now....Are they a good team, sure....Great team? no
Sorry. What I meant to say was that we lost to a better team than you lost to, and we've beaten better teams than you have.

I stand corrected ! I did not realize they slipped back into the top 25 (I usually don't look past the top 20 teams, seeing that only the top 14 are even relevant).

I still hope Brian Kelly doesn't get the job at scUM...

I like Brian Kelly and what hes done for Cincy this year. I really gained respect for him in the preseason when the Cincinnati media did not send anybody to cover UC at the Big East Media Day. He went on and on about how can UC become a player in the conference when their own city wont sent reporters, and I agreed. I think he would do really good at Mich.

Having seen both in person.. (UC vs Uconn at UC) I can tell you that UC is not bad, and Uconn is for crap. Honestly UC's recievers aren't very good, wayyy too many dropped balls, and UC has way to many penalties mostly holding, and penalties are something great teams don't commit on an average of 9 a game. That being said, UC's QB is good, their defense is good.

Uconn... very mediocre... the QB isn't very good, defense is suspect, just all around not too great. Honestly a WVU win over Uconn is like an OSU win over someone like Purdue or Minnesota. That is how suspect Uconn is too me.

It's total BS that WVU is above us... I guarantee if they played our schedule they would be a 2 loss + team. Their loss to USF is just sad, USF has been exposed as the fraud we all expected them to be. WVU doesn't deserve to be ahead of us, it's BS.

While I do agree that WVU's ranking is suspect, let's not get ahead of ourselves. I'd be willing to bet WVU could go 11-1 with our schedule. We didn't exactly run a gauntlet of tough defenses to get to where we are.

Assuming they played the same schedule (i.e. location, time, injury status) they might have trouble at Washington, at PSU, and against Illinois. Purdue might be able to pass on them but the Boilermaker's defense wasn't anything special. Michigan? Yeaaah.

Honestly I think Illinois could beat them because their defense has the tools to stop WVU's offense - outstanding linebackers, quick D-line, etc. There would also be 5 combined pass attempts in that game, and it would be over in 2 hours. But, it'd be fun to watch.

WVU lost before us, and they lost to an opponent who beat a scary SEC team. WVU also beat an incredibly intimidating SEC team. The knock on us is that we cannot beat SEC teams. We lost to the "reject" of the SEC (Personally, I think Zook is a great coach).

We won't be ranked above WVU because of when we lost and who WVU lost to.
