In Iowa City on Wednesday the 18th The Ohio State Women’s Volleyball Team went to 22 wins on the season against the Hawkeyes 3-1.
Audra Appold led the way with 29 kills – the most by a Buckeye since 2013 when Kaitlyn Leary put away 31 against TTUN. Appold’s 29 kills is also the most by an OSU freshmen in ages when Stacey Gordon dropped 30 kills against the Boilermakers of Purdue in 2001.
Valeria León also had a night that history is made of. She stepped into the all-time top-10 in her career for digs. Her 18 digs moved her total to 1,177 surpassing Julie Chellevold (1998-91) who had 1,173 in total.
Taylor Sandbothe got into the act after the half. And boy did she! She blocked the Hawkeyes three times in commanding fashion – reminding them of the power she has and the intensity she brings to the game.
The Hawkeyes failed to record back-to-back points at any moment during this match. The score reflects a closer match then it truly was. The Buckeyes totally dominated.
Taylor Richardson would also show her presence with four blocks. The focus though centered on Appold’s insane run of kills. Her abilities were not only front and center but essentially a display of an athlete in the zone who refused to simmer. She was a delight to watch.
The Buckeyes return to action on Sunday the 22nd at 2 p.m. against #10 Wisconsin in Madison which will be broadcast on BTN Plus.
Victories are nice. This aided win upcoming NCAA Tournament play placement. The Buckeyes are looking good. They are playing well. The time to join the success of these women is now.
We are Buckeyes and these women are Buckeye tough.
Sunday the 22nd see you there.
