Hating the environment since 1994
  • Making a mixed drink for the first time this weekend using apple cider.

    1 gallon apple cider
    1 gallon apple juice
    a fifth of 151
    few teaspoons of honey
    cinnamon sticks

    Anyone had a drink like this before and wondered if it was best served cold or warm?


    Was going to serve it warm.

    Not expecting one person to drink 1/2 gallon. Maybe a cup per person.

    G Lee is right. Use the captain, or some other spiced rum rather than 151. You won't regret it. It just tastes much better with spiced rum. Maybe throw a couple cloves, and orange slices in there too.

    warm.... we would make spiced cider for tailgates when went to Packer games in Green Bay... just add some booze to the recipe.

    INGREDIENTS:

    * 3 quarts apple cider
    * 12 whole cloves
    * 1 cinnamon stick
    * 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

    PREPARATION:
    In a large saucepan, bring all ingredients to a boil. Strain and serve hot spiced cider hot in mugs.
    Makes 12 cups of hot spiced cider.

    What's wrong with the 151?

    Probably just not fans over the overpowering taste of alcohol associated with the 151, I say if you like it, let it stay. I like 151 but
    Captains sounds real good though for a large party, more user friendly for you and the people

    nothing is wrong with it, its just the spiced rum will blend with the cider much better, it is typically flavored with Cinnamon, vanilla, and other spices. Just tastes better. If you want it to kick their ass, stay with the 151

    I was thinking of adding just a touch of vanilla extract even though I know it is bitter.

    I'll just add more cider if the 151 too strong.
