Here's the deal. I make (net) probably just over $30k a year right now. I'm trying to get my own place, and this is by far the best I've seen. Taking into account that, after taxes, my monthly income is ~$1,800, am I fucking myself by looking at a place that, before utilities, cable, internet, etc. is $600/mo.? Haven't ever truly been in my own place paying my own money, so any advice is welcomed.

Vince, are you looking to be in that area of town, or did the price just catch your eye? My complex is about the same amount of money, is closer to Will and Jo, and in a nicer neighborhood... I think anyways.

Oops, it's called templeton crossing, and if you don't like those. I know this really nice leasing agent at another property I can set you up with

It probably depends on what kind of utlities-water,electric,etc.-is included in the rent. I don't make a lot more than you, and I can swing a higher house payment w/ utilities, so you should be OK budgetwise. If you are looking at a car payment, you might be cutting it a little close, I waited until my truck was paid off before taking on a mortgage that was about $300 a month more than my previous rent.

No car payment, no car insurance payment (shh, don't tell!), and no student loan payments - at least not yet. Right now it's basically just my cell phone, utilities, groceries and miscellanies.

SiMV, I actually chose this place in part because of its location. No, the neighborhood isn't exactly cherry, but that doesn't bug me, as I have an invincibility complex. The big motivation is being close to work, and this place is about five minutes away.

And besides...six shower heads.

Gotcha. The inside looks great, and you can't beat having 6 shower heads. That makes the place worth it right there.

6 shower heads? That would be nice, but only if it has enough pressure. Be sure to check that out first.

You can certainly get an apartment just as nice, or nicer, for less money. It just depends on what you're looking for. The cost isn't prohibitive for your income, unless you have a $600 car payment, too. If it's the apartment you want, go for it. If it's just the 6 shower heads, I'd keep looking.

Edit: while I was typing you added that you don't have a car payment at all. Ignore everything I said. Except for the water pressure. You don't want to have 6 shower heads that dribble water out.

Yeah, I remember the days of having no car payment and no insurance payment.... Ah, being able to spend $100 five nights a week at the bar and not feel bad about it. Now I pay $400 a month for my car and another $320 a month for insurance :smash:

How many DUI's do you have? Good lord I can't imagine that kind of insurance payment. What the hell kind of car do you drive? Let me guess, a Camaro?

we're definitely gonna need a picture of these six shower heads. That's fairly absurd and incredible.

I am currently paying $575 for a 2 br 1 bath just off of sawmill across from the big farm. This is about the best deal I found anywhere, so I'd say your $600 offer is a pretty decent one.

I only have one DUI, but I have a 2002 Mustang GT and a speeding ticket to go with it. Oh yeah, I'm only 23, so that makes the premium go up a little.

I work for an insurance co., those rates sound ridiculous! OUCH! They should give you money if you ever have an acciddent. I'd say shop around.

As far as buying/renting I would suggest looking to purchase a condo or home. It always drove me crazy to pay rent and never develop any equity. My mortgage payment with escrow taxes and ins is only a little more than that, but being close to work sounds like is important.

Are you in the Cbus area?

obviously...should have looked at your location first

try this site
http://www.mcbreo.com/ohio/ohplindex.htm
You can research places on the county auditor and bankofamerica.com using the property search tool.
All the ones listed have locks on the doors with a combination of B-C-M...works like a high school locker combunation

FYI - all homes say they have mold damage, but many of them are new builds. most of them have a ton of equity immediately after purchasing.

for us youngsters who have no idea about the financing of mortgages, what type of money would it require each month to pay off a 40-50,000 home?
