I've never been down to Mad River.
Since I was in the 7th grade until my freshman year in HS last year I skied with my middle school ski club. Beechcroft didn't have one so I went back to my middle school. We went to Mad River. I started in a great year for snow(2002-2003 season) and we went like 10 weeks in a row. The next year was a down year. We only went like 5-6 times. Last year was bad at the start of the season, but got better. This year I'm on the swim team and I don't have the time.
I hated it at first(All the blows to the knees), but stuck with it and by the end of my first year I loved it. I got my first board that year. That was when I was 5'6"-5'7". Now I'm like 5'11"-6' and the board is too small.
Boards can be pricey. I bought mine from St. Moritz on Riverside Dr. in Dublin. I got it at a good price. The whole package was $400 for the board, bindings and boots. The boots I got(Vans) were on sale for half off. They usually went for $329. But I got them half off. They are real comfortable, which is understandable since they retailed for $329.
I suggest you try boarding first a few times, rent the stuff from wherever you are going. They'll tell you what you need. And if you like it, got buy your own board, bindings and boots.
