Anybody vacationed at/live in Virginia Beach?

I'm trying to plan out my vacation this year and I found a cool place that is in my price range for the end of May (before the prices hike up). My question is, how is the weather/water temp? Does going early have any disadvantages? Anything else I should know?

If you are in the Ramada check in the ceiling tiles... there may be a couple of bottles of vodka up there from a certain high school band trip. :p If you are going around HS graduation time, it will be overrun. Otherwise, not so much at that point.

Weather will be plenty warm by then - I recall 90-degree days in May. Humidity is bad in VA, but not around the beach. The water will be chillier in May than at the end of the summer, obviously, but it will be fine.

My most recent trips involved crashing on the beach for a few hours after college exams and then heading back, so I'm afraid I can't specify places to go, other than that everything seemed to be in walking distance from the water.

Atlantic Avenue, the main drag off the beach, is pretty cool, but be prepared to see multiple "young G's" "thuggin".

You aren't kidding, that place can get pretty ghetto at night
I went there a couple of years in a row in early-mid June.
Temps were warm, low 80's
Water was cold though

When I was in the Air Force, I became very "friendly" with a girl from Viginia Beach. She was very "warm" and pleasant to be around.
