Any truth behind planned addition to the shoe??

In a related story, ESPN has it from good sources that not only did the Griffins not pay rent for the shoe, but Maurice Clarrett was given the south stands for his contributions to the team since 2002. No word yet if Albert Means is involved in any way, but it looks like MC is not cooperating with the school, NCAA, or law enforcement officials.

Well, that explains why the south stands were empty for the Spring game. :wink2:

I don't think we need a HUGE addition, but I do think that adding a second deck to the south stands would be awesome.

Not a HUGE deck, just enough to match the look of the rest of the stadium. In addition, it would make the Shoe that much harder to play in because:

1. a lot of sound flies out of the south end of the stadium. With a double deck, the acoustic properties present in the rest of the shoe would go into effect and the sound would essentially become trapped.

2. more people = more noise

3. It'd just have that much more intimidating of a look/presence

4. You still keep the look of the shoe -- its not a structural change, just bringing the south stands to par with the rest of the stadium.

5. Possibility to make us the biggest stadium in the country -- I think the south stands holds like 15k.. SO, take about 1-2k seats away for 'constructing' the upper deck, upper deck would add maybe like 9-11k, we'd gain 7-9k = 112-114k.

well it would kinda be cool to have a double deck on the south endzone but it would enclose the stadium and I believe most would not like that.... We like to refer to the stadium as "the shoe" so I bet it would'be be well recepted.. WE could do what Virginia Tech did

What's that?.... Allow our starting quarterback drag our beloved university into the shitter and then kick him off the team too late??:wink2:

I know you are refering to the stadium, but on ALL LEVELS, I never include anything another school does into my thought process on what tOSU should do. We need to be the inovators; the leaders that everybody else follows. That includes stadium renovations. No, I like the 'Shoe the way it is; we are still paying for the last renovation; and besides we already have the best stadium in the land.

Actually, as you all know, they built a giant brick wall around the shoe so we cant' see what they're doing ... last night I went and got this pic:

through a hole in said wall. They were testing some stuff, as you can see... Anyway, the seating is unbelievable, some of the seats are literally OVER the field, although you do have to wear a belt, and thus standing O's are an issue...

double decking the south endzone would not require closing in the shoe.

It'd just be another deck placed on top of the south stands. No enclosure at all.

That's actually not a bad idea, if they ever want to increase the seating capacity. They could also bring the north stands a little closer to the end zone because right now there is a lot of space between the end zone and the stands.

Doing that would change the whole shape of the "Shoe". They left that space empty for a reason. And that was to keep the horse shoe shape. If they bring the seats closer it will look square on the North end.

That's a good point. Bringing the north end closer, would mean having to bring the sides closer to the field as well, and we know that the stands can't get any closer to the sidelines.

Plus game rituals, such as the band coming to the field, the flag being raised, might not work as good with the seats being closer and less space.

One thing they should do is re-do the area around the actual field. That concrete is very close to the endzones and is very dangerous if a player takes a dive on it.
