Breaker for a portion of my living room & kitchen just recently started tripping. I've reset it a couple times & turned it back on, but it will only stay on for about 15 minutes before tripping again. I haven't added any appliances/plugged more things in, so just looking at what might be causing this? I plan on contacting my landlord tomorrow & letting him know about it, but figured I'd ask around for some ideas.

Thanks!

how old is the place... could be the breaker wearing out as some have mentioned... or many other fun things... but if you dont own the place dont touch anything and make the landlord fix it.

Not sure to be honest....I'd guess 1970s? Definitely not doing any work on my own.

MD, this is of no help to you. But I'm typing it anyways.

We just moved to NE Arkansas and the house we moved in to is about 15 years old. We have a bunch (I mean A BUNCH) of squirrels. When we got here in October it was funny to see them wandering around all over our yard and trees. Now that winter is here, we have found that they are in the walls of our house for the winter. Again it was all cute, until two weeks ago, all of the outlets on one corner of the house have stopped working.

I'm not 100% sure the squirrels are the problem, but where we hear them in the walls is exactly where the outlets no longer work. I have this vision of a fried squirrel in the wall and all of his buddies telling cautionary tales of the evil metal snakes.

When it was especially cold outside here, the bunnies hopped in my car and ate all the insulation off the wires in a blatant attempt to murder me. Sounds like your critters are playing Hungry, Hungry Squirrel.

I've heard things in the ceiling before, but assumed it was mice (after catching two). I'd have to go squirrel hunting if I were you lol.

Ah old house, old wires... fun things found in the walls/attics/basement...likely if it covers kitchen and living room the breaker maybe warn out. A lot of amps flowing on that circuit.

Ha...actually just did a real property search & the building was built in 1945. I'm guessing renovated in the 70s/80s.

Hopping bunnies? I think we all know who is to blame here.

Buddy of mine mentioned this as well. I'm hoping that's the case. Thanks!

There are a number of possibilities. Short in the circuit.. bad ground on an outlet/GFCI...BUT, since its older I'd start with replacing the breaker given the "delay" - that's not to say a short might not do the same thing, but, most likely it just wouldn't reset. But also since its older, I'd kind of make sure your landlord sends you a real electrician and not the handyman.
