Texans' Antonio Smith hits Dolphins' Richie Incognito in face with helmet

Houston Texans' defensive end Antonio Smith has a history with Miami Dolphins guard Richie Incognito. On Sunday night, the two added a new page to the history books.

Fox Sports' Jay Glazer obtained video from Sunday night's preseason game between the Texans and the Dolphins in which Smith removes Incognito's helmet and proceeds to swing and hit the Miami guard in the face with it.

Last season, the two got into it during a Week 1 meeting. During a post-play scrum, Incognito appeared to grab Smith's ankle and contort it. Smith responded by kicking Incognito in his leg. Smith was fined $21,000 by the league before having it reduced to $11,000.

Miami head coach Joe Philbin has contacted the league regarding the most recent incident to inquire about a possible suspension or fine.

UPDATE (8:00 p.m.): ESPN says that Smith will likely face a two-game suspension to be served during preseason.
Suspended for two preseason games?

Absolutely ridiculous. He should be done for the year. Without pay.

Edit as necessary for Incognito's situation:

and you allow your gun to be taken off you and you allow yourself to be shot in the eye with a blank which I assume that the person has to get quite close to you then, yeah really it's all your fault for being such a poof, so why don't you stop whining and cheer the fuck up.

Eh, Richie Incognito doesn't get a lot of sympathy from anyone who's followed football for the past couple of years. Even on this play he had his hands up in Smith's facemask.

Long list of dirty plays from Richie. Sooner or later, karma's gonna catch up with this dude.....

Not exaggerating at all here...had it been a classy player like Nick Mangold, for instance, Smith would prob be a looking at a huge fine and suspension. Richie Incognito is easily the dirtiest player in the league.

Smith has no prior issues other than with Incognito and has an otherwise solid reputation.

Doesn't matter. If you're in an argument with your next door neighbor and in a fit of rage you split his head open with a shovel...it doesn't matter if he's the local asshole who provoked you. You're still going to jail.

Once a player takes up a weapon, and yes a helmet is a weapon, he should be done.

The incident was captured on videotape, but it does not appear that Smith actually struck Incognito with the helmet. There was no penalty flagged on the field.http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...uspension-antonio-smith-helmet-swing/2676177/

Once again, completely irrelevant. The intent remains the same.

The inaction of the referees on the field is just another indictment against the competence of the league.

Who got his head split open? Looks like he kind of hit Incognito's chest, maybe grazed his chin. I agree that a preseason suspension is meaningless and pathetic as a punishment, but shoot, I was expecting at least an overhand swing for all the fuss this is generating.

And this is a sports league, not a court of law, so I think the personality of the "victim" does come into play: same reason Dempster didn't get tossed for beaning A-Rod over the weekend.

According to this story, Incognito punched out a hotel security guard.

Maybe the security guard asked for a tip or something.

Never trust SI

The incident came to public light Wednesday when ESPN reported that Incognito had knocked out a Club Liv security guard in an altercation.

The Miami Beach police report differed greatly from that account.

For one thing, Joseph wasn?t cold-cocked. He told police he and Incognito got into a fight after Incognito?s friends refused to move back from the stage.

Incognito, who was the one who called the police and bore facial marks of being struck, told the officers he wasn?t? in a fight, but was trying to break up a fight between one of his friends and Joseph.

Incognito was issued only a trespassing warning.
