Americans prefer wine to beer?

The beer industry has only itself to blame with the scourge of the microbrews and their $10.00/six-pack prices. It was only a matter of time before there was a huge beer-snob/connoisseur backlash.

After about ten years of riding the tidal wave, it's like everyone has woken up and realized they'd rather live the "High Life," because, quite frankly, this Heineken we've been buyin' tastes like dog piss. Seriously people. Heineken sucks! As does about 80% of the other crap taking up shelf space in stores across the country.

If you're going to get raped over alcohol prices, you might as well buy something that doesn't taste like ass and take up half the room in your fridge too.
Very simple solution.

Also possibly slightly misleading might be the fact that there are people like me, if asked that specific question id have to say wine, but the truth is i'd almost never buy either of them since i prefer liquor. and yes, heinekin is piss.(i know i spelled it wrong)

You're absolutely right! There have been some immensely popular imports available everywhere in the States for decades (Pauli Girl, Guinness/Bass/Harp, Dos Equis, etc ...). But somewhere along the way in the late 90s, all the college kids that bought Natural Light and Busch by the 30 pack abruptly switched to microbrews, and by the late 90s the market was flooded with a bunch of crap that nobody bought. Most of the micros today are now owned, operated, and distributed by the major brewers, but retain the micro labels.

Another problem is that many "imports" are actually brewed in the US by major brewers "under license", so you aren't getting the real thing. While there are a bunch of micro-brews that are no longer "micro-brew" in taste, there are still a lot that are (Widmer Hefeweizen is one, and I drink it almost excusively)...

As I get older, I can't drink as much beer as I used to. A six pack fills me up and I don't like the bloated feeling. I can drink wine or bourbon and not feel filled up - so I do. And I do not like weak American beers. I like Pilsners, which some think tastes like ass. I love Sam Adams light, which is the best light I've found. Those flavored berry specialty beers suck. If I wanted a freaking blueberry, I'd eat it with my Pauli Girl!

and full cases only...

how that is supposed to stop underage and binge drinking i dont understand...

I found a place near my house that has a license to sell 6 packs. And what's better is that you can mix and match individual bottles and make your own 6 pack from their microbrew and import section. Expensive as hell, but hey, I'm a doctorb...

Still waiting on trying some Delerium Tremens....

Franzia isn't the best tasting stuff, but it is very popular and convenient for people who only want one glass a night, if even that often, and don't want to buy bottles of wine and wind up throwing 80% of every bottle out. At least, it was up until the low-priced California vintners wised up and started bottling their table wines in 4-pack single-serve bottles with screw-caps like wine coolers.

that's dumb though since as long as you don't throw the cork out, wine will still last for at least several days which is how long 1 glass a day will take. Sure by day 5 it's not as good as day 1, but it still good enough.

Well the price difference isn't really going to down for beer. If you consider that grains are used heavily when making beer you have to accept the fact that with Corn being used as an alternative fuel more space will be used for that, farmers can make more money off of corn than they can for grains.

There was an article relating this problem to tequila recently, that cacti wasn't worth it if you look at the growing ethanol market.

This will effect wines to a degree but many winerys have their own grapes and that's how they reduce costs, same for many cider makers who have their own apple orchards.

Whereas most beer makers, especially micro brews, grow their own hops, but tend to buy the rest of their ingredients.

Eh, I'd prefer a good stopper to reusing the cork, but we're talking about a person that would buy wine in a box anyway. :tongue2:
