Amaris Williams (DL Auburn)

he visited twice in Oct and we didn't get his commit ..... LJsr is slipping a little bit it would seem.
The list of similar DL recruitments or misses is growing to a point where it has to be addressed before we start really feeling it on the field...honestly, damage could already be done after next season. On top of Williams appearing to be trending away after being in the lead after multiple visits, in '24 we were in the lead with Lightfoot, Dylan Stewart and then of course we lost Scott. The '23 class was about the same result.

Williams was pretty much a must get at DE, without him we are looking at Mickens and Houston between the '23/'24 class...both great prospects, but we needed at least one more high quality DE to add in each class. We also dropped the visit with Wilor (or he did) and as far as I know that is pretty much all that was left on the board at DE. Hopefully we can get Williams trending back our way, our eggs are all in that basket now...

Going to feel it pretty dang bad next year if all 4 starters leave too.

This is starting to get a bit frightening in terms of depth that’s for sure.

Day and Company will need to talk with boosters about a portal campaign for DL.

I know you guys don’t like bidding wars but sometimes you have to go into triage.
IMO they need to throw a few bucks at the kids we already have to return for another year first.

If we can return 3 or best case all 4 this is a very dangerous team next year.

Yeah the NIL aspect is double edged. It can hurt as we see all the time, but it can help by keeping some kids who were considering going pro but were unsure on how high they would get drafted to come back for another year if enough NIL$ is offered. The need to jump to the pros to get paid can be mitigated with NIL.

And we have 3 of those on the DL… JT is probably a late first guy but the other 3 are rounds 2-4 right now.

As much as I hate to give them credit for anything, that's something TCUN has been doing and it's worked well for them. One of their collectives specializes in providing NIL deals to upperclassmen to get them to stay another year. It's one of the reasons they have that crop of 4-5 year guys they have had.
I don't disagree with the principle of what OSU is doing by not offering a bag up front ( as far as we know) but we keep slipping with the big national recruits. It's becoming a serious problem that needs to be addressed.

And it hasn’t hurt us yet because NIL is fairly new.

However my fear is in a few years… if we haven’t replenished the LOS how can we legitimately compete with a make shift LOS vs kids who we used to land every single year.

If Hartline can do it then so can the others.
