Alumni Forum Discussion

bukIpower

Head Coach
I understand why we have transfers in the Alumni section so don't take this the wrong way. However, how come we just don't make another section titled "former OSU student athletes" or something like that? Sure people like Dukes who earned a degree deserve the "ALUMNI" status but for those who either break the law or transfer for maybe the wrong reasons I don't know if they do deserve it. Even if the players leave for playing time but obviously loved the program like Robbie Shoenhofft (spelling) I can see the point. In some cases though I can't see the point, and this is one of them. The guy was here 1 semester and left only 10 games into the season so I just don't know how that gets him into company like AJ Hawk, Will Smith, Tedd Ginn, Troy Smith, etc. Hopefully this won't be taken the wrong way though.

However, that said Crater was just so impatient with his time here at OSU. Some kids just don't understand that things have to be worked for and earned. Unfortunately he has adults who he willing trusts telling him he should be this Mayo or Beasley type of freshman which just isn't the case.

Because it doesn't fix anything.
Because it has the same definition iirc.
Because you'll be segregating a lot of great buckeyes who gave osu 3 years and went on to big careers representing osu well.
Because it is really long.
Because it is a hassle to edit the server over something so minuscule.

Because they are buckeyes.

The description of the forum says "This forum is dedicated to updates concerning past Buckeye players."

Pretty much covers everything IMO, both "good" ex-Buckeyes and "bad" ex-Buckeyes.

Agreed. But not all are "Alumni" (with an exception allowed for those who left for the NFL, etc.)

(Transfer) carries some stigma imo, but also brings to mind the circumstances of it (Crater vs Schoenhoft).
To expand on that:

Using the () space for other players could be useful as well. Official Thread gets a little redundant and busy on the screen. It could be interesting to put (Colts) or (Colts WR) which is their profession and would add a wider scope to the alumni threads.

Dont we have a sub forum for recruits who have chosen to go a different route? Couldn't we just put our transfers in that section?

What you could do for example is in Crater's case you could put him in the Basketball 09' recruiting forum with the other kids who have signed at other places and list him as

PG Anthony Crater (OSU Transfer/New school)

Would you consider simply re-naming the sub-forum, i.e. from Buckeye Alumni to simply Buckeyes of the Past(or along those lines)? Oden, Cook, Conley, Koufos, etc.. with likely many more additions in the coming years, who didn't leave OSU with a degree, are in this sub-forum.

what do you do for career journeymen? (colts, jets, patriots, vikings, giants and dolphins, wr.)

id say year left the program and where they go. then update the first post for searching purposes? i dont know. but subforums or removing the buckeye leaf, how do you decide? i mean do we vote everytime? do we exclude art since hes been "bad" but include maurice since he won a title, what about guys who never gave a damn but went pro. what about the darnell sanders of the world, what about guys like nick goings who left, went to pitt never really played and have had long nfl tenures, what about...

My two cents is that in this case Anthony forfeited the name of "Buckeye" .
He obviously doesn't want or maybe even never considered himself to be one.
I would classify him as a former student, not a Buckeye in the true sense of the word.
A Buckeye cares deeply about his school and his team and everything connected to tOSU and he just dosn't impress me as having that passion.
