Allen Iverson...All Star MVP?

saw the entire game... concur with Tibor albeit not sure if it was NBA or voter brainfarts... AI was the LAST person I would have given the MVP to... I thought Shaq deserved it... pretty good defense, especially early... a number of blocks and steals... with any effort LBJ could have won it... but AI -- hardly... terrible shots... would not feed the open man... and I think the scorer was generous about his turnovers...

Let's not forget his 14 assists (which more than offsets his turnovers). AI was the most high-energy player out there last night, and he looked like he was having the most fun too. His team won, he had a double-double; nobody else had the numbers for MVP.

when you're the point guard in a zero-defense environment such as the all-star game and you miss 9 of 13 you should have 20 assists... unless you have been guilty of being completely selfish...

of the 4 shots he did make, two of them were directly the result of LeBron providing gifts... and yes, two were actually of his own making...

I think the look on Shaqs face when they announced Iverson spoke volumes...

Despite his immense talent, I would not want him on my team... he destroys chemistry and thus will never be on a good team... He screams at his GM for not getting him better players but that's because no one wants to play with him... There's too much "I" in Iverson...

I found it hard to believe that someone would take so much personal space when you have a court full of stars and superstars. Then again...

Shaq was probably the main difference maker (court presence, as well as production) with LeBron and Wade about as close. It's more than numbers, for sure, but even the numbers were not impressive enough to determine that MVP decision.

I thought Iverson provided a lot of intensity which was cool. But his shot selection including throwing up those bombs towards the end weren't MVP material, IMO. However, everybody's stats were so close I could see how Iverson snuck in. I, too, thought Shaq was the difference. Did that one pass from Iverson in the last couple minutes actually bounce off Shaq's head?

You can make a lot of arguments as to why AI may embody all that's wrong with the NBA, but I'm not sure how you came to such a conclusion based on him winning the all-star game MVP.

One could pull very unimpressive figures on Craig Krenzel from some games in 2002 from a pure statistical point of view, but that doesn't mean I would have traded him for any other QB in college football.

Iverson was one of many players for the East that could have won. I have no problems with him winning. He was one of the only players out there playing with effort. Hell, he posted a double-double. How can anyone say he was hogging the ball when he posted double-digit assists?

I feel that he "hogged" the ball because he had it more than anyone else. LeBron James might have had twice the assists if he had touched the ball as much as Iverson. AI also had the most turnovers and a terrible shooting percentage. I just felt like he was trying too hard to win the MVP. Just my persective...

I'm not that passionate about it either, but I would have chosen someone else, that's all.

BTW, Shaq sure is a character!!
