Pretty crazy stuff... I could see it getting deep brown but the blackness is really incredible. So is it not a problem to be outside in one of those? Or is it more of an issue if you can't get to shelter at will.

You're supposed to get your ass inside (check out the announcement that only emergency vehicles were supposed to be outside). But like anything, people get used to shit, and from what I've heard, if the wind isn't too strong it's not all that bad (the sand is supposedly so fine it's like talcum powder).

Wow. It's hard to imagine getting used to something like that. I would guess that being outside in one would be horrible, especially without a mask- sand in the lungs doesn't sound too pleasant. This just adds another reason I'm grateful for the sacrifices our soldiers make.

We'd get them every few years when I lived in the Saudi. Pretty harmless except the sand gets EVERYWHERE, and like mili mentioned it's a very powdery sand. It gets into your car, any crack in your door, your windows, your vents. Cleanup's a bitch. The other thing you can't tell from the video is how fast it's really coming. I remember playing soccer about a half mile from my house when one of these showed up on the horizon. We booked it back and barely made it in the house before it hit.
