Thump is right, change the filter on your furnace before you buy anything. It will make a huge difference.

Ok, I should rephrase that again. There is no slot for a furnace filter anywhere on my furnace. I am looking at it now, and I can't find a place to put a furnace filter.
Maybe it's a real ghetto furnace, I dunno. But then again, I do live in an apartment just off campus.

No way, there has to be a spot somewhere. If you can't find it, call your landlord and ask them.

My guess is that there is a slot (there has to be) but in order to avoid any maintinence at all your landlord has no filter in the slot. Look for where one may go if in fact there were a filter.
They may have put some tape over the slot so the air would not escape through the gap.
