After saving 2 in burning car, hero jailed for driving on suspended license

HERALD-LEADER STAFF REPORT

A Wolfe County man became a hero today when he pulled two people from a burning vehicle after a crash in Powell County that killed a Stanton man.

But Daniel Landrum, 43, of Campton wound up in jail afterward. His driver's license had been suspended because for driving under the influence, state Trooper Jay Perkins said.

Bernie Miller, 48, was northbound on Ky. 15 about 4 miles south of Stanton when his Ford Tempo crossed the center line and struck a Chevrolet Blazer, Perkins said.

Miller was thrown from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. He probably would have survived had he been wearing a seat belt, Perkins said.
The Blazer burst into flames, trapping Clemon Cole and his daughter Heather inside. Landrum pulled them from the vehicle.

Clemon Cole, 70, of Stanton, was taken to University of Kentucky Hospital, where he was in the emergency room this afternoon being treated for multiple injuries.

Heather Cole, 20, also of Stanton, was treated for multiple injuries at Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester. Her condition was unavailable.

Landrum was taken to the Powell County jail.
