When I moved to Columbus I had a higher paying job, and now I'm making about 2/3 of what I was making originally so my wife, son and I are looking for a new place.

We live in Canal Winchester now and enjoy the nice neighborhood, but can't afford to stay in the apartment I'm in right now.

Does anyone know of any good neighborhoods that are cheaper to live in?

I'm paying $809 a month for a 2 bedroom town home right now and am looking for a 2 bedroom garden or even a house to rent in a nice neighborhood that is cheaper than I pay right now?

I'm tired of looking on ForRent.com or Apartments.com, etc... .. I need someone in the Buckeye Nation who knows the area to tell me what neighborhoods are safe and what ones are not.

I appreciate any help guys.

I would think you'd be able to find something in Grove City. It's no UA or Dublin. Heck, it's probably not even as fancy as Westerville. But it's safe and a pretty nice place to live, plus it's much easier to get downtown than it ever was from Westerville.

I have some family that live in the Grove City area. My sister has a townhome with 2 bedrooms (each with their own walk-in closet and bathroom) upstairs, downstairs includes a living room, kitchen (with bar seating), small dining room, 1/2 bath, walk-in pantry, one car garage. I'm pretty sure she is paying around 700. The area seems to be pretty safe although they have had some cars being broken into (2 incidents over the last year that I know of). Plan to park in the garage. :)

Lancaster rates are much cheaper. You can find two bedroom apartments for 450-600. Dryden and I used to have a townhouse before buying our house in a very nice neighborhood. I think their rates are around 600-650 now. If you work in the Columbus area you will be looking at an hour drive (if you work 8-5), less if you have to be at work 7-4. I had that drive for about 5 years.

I had a buddy that lived in Collier Crest a couple years ago. Not sure about prices now, but 2 bed/2 bath was under $600 when he was there. Water's Edge up 33 towards 70 was about $700, and that's gated with a pool, pond, and family rec area.
