Football Team Excelling in the Classroom
By Ohio State Press Release
Forty-nine Ohio State football players recorded a grade point average of 3.00 or better during the just completed Winter Quarter, with 17 of those student-athletes achieving a 3.50 or better in the academic arena.
The Winter Quarter showing raises the team's overall grade point average to 2.82 for the 114-member squad.
Additionally, a record 44 members of the football team have qualified for the upcoming Scholar-Athlete Banquet, marking the third consecutive year that at least 40 players have been in attendance at the annual spring dinner, which recognizes those student-athletes with GPA's of 3.00 or better during the past academic year.
Five Ohio State football players received their degree at Winter Quarter Commencement earlier this month: long snapper Kyle Andrews, wide receiver Brandon "Bam" Childress, defensive back Harlen Jacobs, fullback Branden Joe and linebacker Thomas Matthews. All five lettered this past year for the 8-4 Buckeyes.
