people have lost some perspective on this season too. We chose to do something groundbreaking, and schedule an elite OOC matchup. Most years we do not have that game, and instead we squeak by Ohio :)

Since 1990 we've played the following OOC games that I would say are "better than average" to "Elite"; or at least some "big names" (records in parentheses):

1990-1995
(4-7) Texas Tech W
(4-7) @Boston College W
(8-4-1) USC L
----
(4-7) Arizona W
(4-7) Washington State W
----
(10-2) @Syracuse W
----
(7-4) Washington W
----
(7-4) @Washington L
----
(4-8) Boston College (KO Classic-NY?) W
(7-4-1) Washington W
(9-3) Notre Dame W

1996-2000
(8-3) @Notre Dame W
----
(7-5) Arizona W
(7-5) @Missouri W
----
(8-4) @West Virginia W
(8-4) Missouri W
----
(9-4) Miami L (KO Classic-NY?)
(4-7) UCLA W
----
(5-6) @Arizona W

2001-present
(7-4) @UCLA L
----
(9-5)Texas Tech W
(10-3) Washington State W
----
(6-6) Washington W
(8-5) N.C. State W
----
(5-6) @N.C. State W
----
#2 Texas L

We've always scheduled these types of games. We also all know who's on the menu in the coming years. Sometimes you catch them when they're down and sometimes you catch them when they're #2 in the country. You see those first couple Washington games. They were probably scheduled when the Huskies were coming off a Nat'l Championship year, but they were 7-4 type teams when we played them. If we play Texas in the '90's we may have caught them in a 4-7 year for comparison. That's just the way it is. I agree with the rest of your post about expectations, but I wanted to point out that this isn't groundbreaking. We are just going to get bit every now and then playing these types of teams like we did this year. However I like the fact that we will play all-comers, home and away....

The problem with this type of ultra conservative offense is that if they make one or two mistakes, then the game is all but out of reach.

Absolutely! This is the spread offense as Woody would have run it, not the way its inventors envisioned it. Woody's teams always struggled to come from behind too. Fortunately they were very rarely behind.

There is no spread in this spread offense. No play takes place further than four yards off the line of scrimmage. Quick slants to Santonio over the middle, quick screens behind the line to Teddy, little dump-offs to Hamby. And running off tackle.

Throw the ball down field and let our athletes beat their defenders. I'd prefer that the guy doing the throwing be Zwick, but if it's got to be Troy, fine. Let him -- make him -- throw downfield. Trust Holmes, Ginn and Gonzo to come down with the ball if they're halfway open. This will help the running game too, of course, by moving defenders off the line.

fair enough, I didn't mean to say we don't schedule tough competition/ b/c we do. But Texas will go undefeated this year and at worst have 1 loss. There aren't any teams comparable to that on your list. I just mean that had we played this texas team in 2002, we may have lost a game. Considering how we struggled against far inferior competition, I'd say it's not too much of a stretch to wonder about that.

Either wya, the offense has to get better. I just am replying to those types who think the season is beyond repair. It is a letdown from the expectations, but far from lost.

That is a good one, Audibles!!!!

Can OSU QBs audible? I don't remember hearing "Zwick/Smith is changing the play at the line..."

LOL, they are too busy trying to remember the play as they run it in from the sideline.... LOL, haha, hysterical.

Besides, do you really think Jim would empower his offensive players like that, as Dr. Evil would say, RIGHT....

Look up micromanager if you do not understand.

    :( :tongue2:
