A Quick 5 with Grant Schwartz
BP had the opportunity to catch up with Buckeye verbal commitment Grant Schwartz some post-commitment comments and some insight into tOSU recruiting.
1) What officially sealed the deal for the Buckeyes?
I just felt I wanted the whole recruiting process to be over. Ohio State has ALWAYS been my dream school and once I was sure they felt the same way about me that I felt about them...it was time. Plus, my girlfriend told me to.
2) Although the easy answer is "wherever the team needs me," what position would you honestly prefer to play in Columbus?
Honestly, I don't have preference. Wherever I have the best opportunity to play the quickest? I just want to play football. I know I can play on either side of the ball. Hmmmm. Ok, defense, safety OR corner!
3) Can you describe Coach Fickell's recruiting technique for the fans? What makes him connect with the kids so much?
Coach is steady and laid back. I actually had more contact with coach Beckman. But no matter whom it was I spoke with, we always laughed. Often, the conversations had little to do with football. Just about "stuff". School, girls you know.....I felt like they cared about me as a person first and foremost.
4)Have you spoken with any other members of this year's recruiting class? Do you plan to help out with some recruiting?
I have not, though in my last conversation with coach B, he asked if I'd like to help and I said, "absolutely!" I believe with all my heart that we are going to win at least one National Championship while I'm at OSU. The better players we can get the more likely that goal is. If I can help, that'd be VERY cool.
5) Its early, but I know you've thought about it. Describe your dream Ohio State career.
Wow! Big games, for the team and myself. Championships! From an individual standpoint, I WILL compete to play if not start as a true freshman. I don't want to sound cocky so please don't take it like that. That's just the only way it can be as far as my preparation and goals go. OSU already has some great players and I have complete respect for those guys. I hope I can earn their confidence. An AJ Hawk type career sounds real good to me! That's what I will strive for. I will say I've had visions of standing next to Ted Ginn waiting to return a kickoff. Since anyone in their right mind would rather kick to me than Ted (laughs). They do, and they pay cause I take it 99 yards, all the way back! The Texas game next year would work for me.
That will work for all of us as well, Grant. Thanks to the Schwartz family for letting BP stay close during the recruiting process. We can't wait to see Grant in the 'Shoe.
