Green Goes Public With Commitment

By Phil Kornblut
Summerville junior WR A.J. Green (6-4 192), considered the top prospect in the state for 2008, revealed his poorly kept secret Saturday while at Georgia for the Tennessee game. Green told reporters from Georgia recruiting websites that he had, indeed, committed to the Bulldogs. He said he actually had committed to head coach Mark Richt back in July.

Green Not Firm With Georgia Commitment

By Phil Kornblut
Junior WR A.J. Green (6-4 192) of Summerville no longer is solidly committed to Georgia according to a source familiar with Green's thinking. Green announced a commitment to Georgia last October, but according to the source, Green has been telling close friends he no longer is strong with that commitment. "He's saying he doesn't want to go to Georgia to be a decoy," the source said. Green has told some close to him that he feels Georgia's offense is more run oriented and as a receiver he would not be used to his full potential. He's also concerned about the lack of receivers Georgia has sent to the NFL. Green is regarded as one of the top players nationally in the junior class. USC, Clemson, LSU and Notre Dame are some of the other programs strongly involved.

We OSU fans like to complain about how bad we have it when it comes to recrutiing, but imagine being Georgia. Here you are in October, thinking you have arguably the nation's top receiver locked up, and now in February he says he wants to look around, which means they will probably have to watch this thing drag on through five official visits, which means this could drag on into next Winter or even 2008. I would not want to have to be in that situation right now.

Once these kids find out about all the free trips and things of that nature that will come to them, they have to love that, and that is the reason why there are not as many early commits as there used to be.

Even kids like Adams and Brewster who are already recruiting other kids to be buckeyes they just want to take some free trips and enjoy the process...Not because they are bad kids, but because it is a once in a lifetime experience and you might as well take advantage of it.

It is the kids like the 3 stars or the ones that don't have the high offer total that try and committ early b/c they know if they wait that their ship might be gone.

This is the main reason why Texas has all their committ early is b/c they tell them committ now or the offer is gone, but IMO you would lose some high level kids that just want to take some visits if you do that...

don't believe the rumors

He's staying a bulldog

The other guy who wrote that, phil K, is based in south carolina and generally talks out his a$$ when it comes to recruiting.

"I?ve heard the rumors, and they?re not true," Green said. "I knew this might be something that would come along with this, but I?m prepared to handle it. I?m committed to Georgia. If I have to say that 10 times between now and next February, then that?s what I?ll do. If I have to say it 100 or 1,000 times, then that?s what I?ll do.

"Anything anybody hears or reads about me not going to Georgia is not true."

Kornblut is definitely a Gamecock homer but he also has good info which usually has a little fire within the smoke....I like him because he isn't afraid to walk way out on the limb.

As for A.J. Green, the rumors are rampant...and they just don't involve UGA.

Schools Stay In Touch With Green

By Phil Kornblut
WR A.J. Green (6-4 192) of Summerville committed to Georgia last October. Sources in the Lowcountry have indicated Green might look around at some other schools but Green said Tuesday night his commitment to Georgia is "real solid, real solid." But other schools continue to work Green who said he has about 10 offers right now including USC, Clemson, Georgia, Colorado, Ohio State and Miami. He's also hearing from Notre Dame, LSU and Florida. "Florida is showing a lot of interest," he said. "Coach Strong is texting me a lot. He said 'we need you here." Green said he's hearing from USC recruiter Brad Lawing about once a week but hasn't heard that much from Clemson. Green just finished his basketball season in which he averaged 22 points per game. He said Georgia Tech and North Carolina are in touch with him for basketball. He has not been to any junior days and has no current plans for any.
