I Heart Boobs
So like..........I have been at my current job for 5 1/2 years. The first maybe 3 1/2 years of it were very good. Then I was promoted to management. Lemme tell you........NEVER again. So that was the first step towards shitty. Then gradually, with the place not doing so well financially, people start leaving, or being let go. As that happens, I end up picking up about 5 people's jobs on top of my own. I am the director of technical support/sales rep/billing rep/network admin/dsl installer/computer repair tech/janitor.

So this past week, I spend an entire week not being able to eat, or sleep. I lose 10 lbs in a week over all this. Sunday morning I woke up and say "Hell with it, gonna put in my 2 weeks notice." I dont have another job lined up at all, and hadn't even been looking for another job, if that tells you how bad this has gotten. With me gone, i dont give the place long before it closes. I dont mean that in a bragging way, I mean it in terms of there is simply no way that anybody is crazy enough to do what I spent the past 2 years doing. Even if there was, would take so long to train them up on everything........blah.

Anyway with the whiny part over, wanted to get some opinions. My main area of expertise (use the term loosely) is in the computer hardware/networking end of things. I live in the armpit of Ohio, where there are not many jobs. I have not ruled out just taking off and moving to Cbus to find a job. Does anybody have anything they can recomend for me? Now on to the opinion part. I type roughly 130 words per minute.......maybe even more now, havent tested it out lately. I have always heard of the "work from home" jobs, like data entry, etc.......do these actually exist? Does anybody have any experience with something like that, or know someone who does? It is just out of curiosity as I am tryin to keep all options open. Hell I may even start my own business if anybody needs a job

BMax,

Sorry to hear about he job getting to you man. Your lifes not worth having your job affect your health.

I would recommend moving to Columbus if you can.

I am familiar with that area of the state and agree that jobs in your field are few and far between.

Good luck man and hope better health and work satisfaction are in your future.

I don't have specific advice for you, but congrats on making the decision to move on. That takes a lot of courage with nothing lined up. Glad you put your sanity first.

Now that you have some time on your hands do a real analysis of where you want to be with your career and life. Then figure out the next steps to get there. Start making lots of networking contacts too.

PS Stalking Jessica Alba full-time is not considered a job.

Small business in a dying area = bad. No other way to put it, so you are very right.

THanks fellas.

I have a couple slight possibilities working at hospitals over here as a pc analyst. If I cant get something where I believe I could actually buy a house and retire from, then I am not even gonna consider it right now. I am getting to the age where I need to start living I guess.

Bmax... not much advice for you but I did the same thing about a year and a half ago... I was in Management for almost 10 years and after a run in with a shitty boss (who was trying to make a name for himself by being a fucking corporate yes man) I up and left with no warning. As cheesy as it sounds.. follow your heart.... you can get another job, move to another place but make sure you stick to the decision.

Best of Luck

That is pretty much what popped into my head on Sunday morning. I have a shitload of XP now (little geek terminology there), and am not worried at all about finding another job. Also have some cash saved that I can survive on for a while. Never felt so good in my life though, just that 10 second decision lifted like 4000 lbs from my shoulders. 7 more days to go..........

Let's see, an IT professional in a dying area of the state. Where have I heard that one before? Oh yeah, that was me. I feel for you man. It's tough, I tried everything. I even sold insurance for a while (which sucked so much ass that it gave ass sucking a bad name.) In the end I decided to go back to the Army, the best decision I could have made, I so much happier now that I can't belive it. Good luck man whatever you decide to do.

I too am a disgruntled employee. After my recent health situation I have been off work for 2 months now and just returned last week. I now realize how much the company I work for has there collective heads up their asses. Sitting on the outside and just observing the e-mails and correspondence within the company has given me a totally different perspective of who I work with/for.

Since there seems to be several of us (some with some technical knowledge) I was thinking maybe we could get together and start a website for money. Hypothetically it could be very similar to BP, except we could charge people money to look at it. I know there is some stiff competition out there, so I was thinking maybe we would be just a little different. We could have a regular price somewhere around $76 dollars and offer a special where people could get it now for just $48.95.

I don't really have many connections to OSU for inside info, but I know a few places I can get some. I also have a vivid imagination, and have yet to be saved.

Let me know if you are interested.

I felt the same way... it was like the stress was no longer there. Even the stress about what I was going to do about a job was less than the shit I put up with from them. I had already been looking for another job as it was but had nothing lined up. I came home from work at 12:30am one night and my wife and I stayed up most of the night talking about it... the next day I walked in and let him have it and then left. Two days later I had a job offer to move here to Florida... now that job only lasted 4 months but they paid for my move which cost 7K...

You just never know whats going to happen.
