A Few Thoughts on Yesterday's Game

we missed Alex Boone.

as i watched Shaefer get beat time and again, i found myself wondering if perhaps bringing in Whaley (or is it Cordle?) at center and moving Datish back over to tackle might help shore up the protection...
If Boone cannot go next week at Ryan Field then that kind re-alignment having Datish in LT is one that makes some sense lv. Cordle or Whaley are the choices then at center, with Whaley having dibs based on the recent 2-deep, Cordle being the future.

How would that affect the center-QB exchange and the calls on the line by the center? I would rather have Rehring at LT to keep Datish at center. But, has Rehring even practiced or played at LT since the season has started? I can't remember if he got in at LT early in the season.

Well I'd assume that with the injury to Boone, the coaches have practiced a couple different centers with Troy/Zwick/Boeckman during the week. But you never know, I think they have plenty of talent on the O-line and maybe Shafer just needed some playing time to get his feet under him....

he played yesterday. 18 of 27 for no tds and 2 ints. iowa has been hurt, but they've been terrible regardless.

He did?

I could've sworn he was out for 3-4 weeks last week....

anyway, good call, they've been horrible since Ohio State played them and really they didn't play that good against OSU...

The reality is, you have to be able to run the ball even when the other team and every fan in the stands knows that it's coming. A back who averages 5.5 per carry, and a line that boast of being solid through the two-deep at least, has to be able to move the chains against a 2-8 team. Tressel knows this. If you have to give up on the running game against Illinois, Nov. 18 isn't going to be pretty.

The goal this week and next week is to get ready to beat the #2 team in the country. It's not to rack up pretty stats. Tressel didn't coach this game to keep it close -- I think he and the staff would have been perfectly happy to see a WVU-like rushing output and a 35-point win.

I think it's also important to see that this team can rack up a classic Tresselball win. Many of the elements were there -- excellent special teams work, in the form of some clutch punting, terrific punt coverage, automatic place kicking, an onside kick recovery, and sure-handed punt and kick returning. The defense was opportunistic and didn't allow the big play. Some elements were not there -- if the offense takes care of the ball, OSU covers and this game isn't even a story. There were also a couple of penalties that just aren't acceptable, and weren't smart.

There are some good things we can take from this game, one of those being that this team can still win even if the offense is sputtering or non-existant. TSUN's d-line is very good, and we might see something very similar -- Troy under pressure, Pittman fighting for every half yard, and fans in the stands scratching their heads. It's good that we know that we can win a game like this.

Displaced Bucks fan

I am a Bucks fan, a True Bucks fan. I lived in SEC country for 5 years in the early 80's. Remembering not so good seasons. Still I was a Bucks fan not a Bulldog not a Seminole but a Loosing Buckeyes Fan. I can remember when it wasn't even good to be a Bucks fan in Columbus. I was just in Columbus, a city in which I Love... I got to see OSU - Penn State game. I was really excited to be back in my hometown, with my relatives and to see the Garnet and Grey everywhere. I found my feelings a little mixed... People are on the OSU bandwagon. I hope it stays that way, even during a loosing season. I remember my Uncle was a PSU fan, now dosen't even admitt it. What happen to all of the Columbus, Michigan fans. (When OSU is doing their best). Where are they now!!!! I'm sure most of the Fans on this sight are true. I know there are some of you out there, it's ok welcome home...
I'm really enjoying this. By the way I live in Europe now, still follow every game. Thanks to the internet. Soccer fans are a little tougher than SEC fans....

A win is a win. This team is being criticized because they were too dominant in the first 9 games. It is virtually impossible to be perfect every week. JT and this team set a level of excellence that could not be maintained. JT and the team knows that the playoffs start on 11/18! The second half was there bye. If I had said this team would not only win but be dominant through week 9 not many would've believed it. Now is not the time to lose faith..for those of you in C-Bus praise any Buckeye you see..they deserve it whatever happens from here on out. Get behind JT and the team..if you must vent do it here or BN.

1. First point - If a Buckeye loss is going to get you so bent out of shape that it ruins your entire weekend (and maybe the following week), then maybe, just maybe, you need to get your priorities in order.

No way, LBJ. I have the Browns for that
