Yup, I don't really understand why the new owner(s?) would make a change like that, since The Blitz was already so popular. I don't listen to the radio, but most of my friends listened to The Blitz. None of them listen to 99.7 anymore.

What did they play? I used to listen to 107.1 while in cbus, but now they are country. :bonk:

Heavier rock & metal. As far as I know, they were the only heavier rock & metal station in Columbus? CD101 is the closest thing that I know of, and it's really not even close.

From the WBZX website..

"The Rock? is just one great BIG ROCK STATION! Playing the best rock from the 90?s and 80?s through today. 99.7 ?The Rock? will feature music from rock?s best known artists including Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Def Leppard, Smashing Pumpkins, Metallica, Ozzy, Staind, AC/DC, Nickelback and many, many more. Check it out LIVE!

?The Rock?s? Program Director Hal Fish stated, ?It seems as though rock listeners in Columbus have had to choose between stations that play either very old rock or rock that is mostly new. 99.7 ?The Rock? will bridge that gap with a mixture of music that begins in the 90?s and spreads its wings in both directions. We think it?s a mixture that most rock listeners can agree on!?

Still no Fall Out Boy for DaytonBuck. Hang in there, buddy!

Didn't they used to be WMGK or something? I remember way back when I was still at tOSU they went bonkers with their programming and played Stairway to Heaven repeatedly for like three days straight.

And then they started doing thing where they'd add a new song every hour based on a listener call-in poll of some sort.

Bout time the Blitz died. I wondered how long they get away with the "New Rock, Ninety-nine seven The Blitz" intro and then follow with the opening riff to Sabbath's Paranoid.

They completely sucked when Stearn was on there. For the longest time they were the only station that played music in the morning as opposed to a stupid morning show. Then they brought in Stearn and axed him during the fallout of him being him. The Greg-O show what ever it was was horrible. and they had some idiot from Cleveland between Stearn and Greg-O.

Just play fucking music. That's all I ask.

I turned on 99.7 last Saturday for the first time in probably 6 months and wondered what the hell happened. 99.7, 105.7, and 106.7 are almost identical now. 105.7 plays a little more older stuff.

I wish there was something like KROQ around here. I'm sick of hearing 24/7 Nirvana, Metallica, and occasional Ozzy. Give me something recorded in the last year please.

I don't think there are any new owners.. I didn't see anything about 99.7 selling..

And the Blitz may have been "so popular" according to your buddies, but not according to the ratings.. just sayin'

The Blitz began to die after Howard left..

Cleve, IMO, I think they are trying to take a platform thats getting good ratings here in columbus and dominate it.. and considering 99.7 has the biggest signal here in town...

I assumed it was sold because the first post of this thread said "it's been a whole week now that since the Blitz was bought out."

And like I said, I don't listen to the radio. I just assumed it was popular because most of my friends listen to it, and I've heard a lot of people talking about it around campus. But you seem to contradict yourself in the bold statements?

EDIT: The post below me confirms their popularity, or lack thereof. My mistake. :)

Yup, Magic 99.7 - the big AM host was Perry Stone... lasted a couple months... The Stairway gimmick was pretty funny

To add to Bleed S&G's response, 99.7 was 7th in Cols radio and had fallen to 11th recently, well behind QFM96 (according to the Other Paper)
