Player of the week: RB Thomas Zaffino of No. 11 Bellevue (Wash.) rushed for a career-high 291 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries in a 35-3 win against Mercer Island. Zaffino, a senior, scored on runs of 1, 6 and 66 yards.
Game of the week: Friday, No. 19 St. Xavier (Cincinnati) vs. Elder (Cincinnati), 7:30 p.m. ET. St. Xavier (5-0) has allowed 28 points in five games with three shutouts.
Injured: LeSean McCoy, a preseason Super 25 running back from No. 8 Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, Pa.), injured his right ankle Saturday late in a 38-24 win vs. Harrisburg and is out for the season. He rushed for 195 yards and two scores and totaled 859 yards in four games.
Milestones: Coach Larry "Bud" Wright of Sheridan (Ind.) got his 300th win, 47-14 against Delphi. Wright, 300-143-2 in 40 seasons, became Indiana's fifth high school football coach to reach the milestone. He is the father of No. 7 Warren Central (Indianapolis) head coach Kevin Wright. ... Mike Williams of Manheim (Pa.) Central earned his 250th victory in a 42-14 win against Cocalico (Denver).
Crowded house: The game between Louisville all-male Catholic schools St. Xavier and Trinity drew 38,500 to the University of Louisville's Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. St. Xavier won 48-16 and holds a 32-27-2 edge in the all-time series.
Extra points: Preseason Super 25 WR Percy Harvin of No. 20 Landstown (Virginia Beach) scored five TDs against Kempsville (Virginia Beach), pushing his season total to 17 in four games. ... No. 22 Gilman School (Baltimore) won its second consecutive overtime game in a 20-14 victory against Georgetown Prep (North Bethesda, Md.). ... San Francisco schools Sacred Heart Cathedral and St. Ignatius renewed their longtime rivalry, which began in 1893, at Kezar Stadium. ... QB Aaron Wicklund passed for 125 yards and two TDs and rushed for another score in Sacred Heart's 28-12 victory before nearly 8,000.
