All responses make sense. It was just surprising to browse through the offers, and see such a vast majority going out of State. Was wondering if that was a big change from Tressel's recruiting style/philosophy, or if I just hadn't noticed the same trend in the past.
The volume of offers
is significantly more, particularly early out-of-state ones, which is what you noticed already.
At the end of the day (recruiting class), I think there will only be a slight (to moderate, depending on the year) increase from the Tressel era in the number of out-of-state kids in each class.
The good news is that those out-of-state kids will generally be the best of the best and will take each class to a level that Tressel rarely attained.
Tressel showed that Ohio State could sell itself on the recruiting trail into enough talent to dominate the Big Ten for a decade. Add a guy like Meyer into the mix, with his more aggressive style, and it's hard to see the talent
not getting better- which is why Bielema and Dantonio are crying themselves to sleep at night.
The only downside could be a lack of understanding of Ohio State tradition from the national kids (think the Cooper years), but given Meyer's roots in Ohio and that fact that Ohio kids will
always form the basis of Buckeye classes, even that isn't much of a worry... in my opinion.
