Six-man football can be a crazy game.
But when the No. 1 team in Texas meets No. 104, it can be downright weird.
In a 94-0 win over Megargel on Oct. 14, top-ranked Throckmorton ran eight plays from scrimmage but scored 12 touchdowns.
The Greyhounds were never tackled.
They scored on all eight offensive plays — five runs of 2, 20, 28, 24 and 8 yards and three passes of 17, 13 and 5 yards.
They also returned a punt 30 yards for a touchdown, scored on 22-yard and 13-yard fumble returns and returned an interception 25 yards for a TD.
Eighty percent of the team got into the end zone. Throckmorton had 10 players suited up for the game and eight scored touchdowns.
All that was done in just more than 15 minutes. Throckmorton’s last touchdown was scored with 4:47 left in the first half.
A fast clock chewed up the rest of the half, and the sixman mercy rule ended the game at halftime.
The Greyhounds averaged a touchdown every minute and 16 seconds. At that rate, the game would have been 248-0 if it had lasted for four quarters.
Granger Huntress, a six-man football authority, said Milford won a similar game 72-0 back in the 1990s, scoring on six of seven plays (all runs) and having a few more called back on penalties. Huntress said Milford also ran back the opening kickoff for a touchdown and turned an interception or two into TDs.
