Q: Considering he's been around and has been groomed for the job, will Danny Hope change Purdue all that much? If the team was mediocre before, why is it going to be better under Hope? What's the most important position battle to watch for this spring?
A: By Allen Trieu from BoilerSportsReport.com - I don't think a whole lot will change to be honest. Like you said, he's come up through the system, he's a Tiller guy who seems to subscribe to a lot of the same coaching philosophies. However, the one thing with the change is just that: it's a change. So just the fact that there was a changing of the guard renews some "hope." I also think Coach Hope is a great recruiter who will build more ties in the Midwest where recently, Purdue has concentrated more on the south. Position battle, Painter is obviously out. Justin Siller stepped in for a few games and did well, but before that he was a running back and they have redshirt freshman Caleb TerBush who is highly touted.
Purdue dismisses QB Siller
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) -- Purdue quarterback Justin Siller has been dismissed from school through 2009-10 for an undisclosed academic violation.
The redshirt sophomore from Detroit was expected to compete with fifth-year senior Joey Elliott for the starting job next season.
Siller started three games last year, including his first start against Michigan when he led the Boilermakers to a 48-42 win and was named the Big Ten's offensive co-player of the week. He completed 21 of 34 passes for 266 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 77 yards and another score in that game.

Purdue
Head Coach: Danny Hope
Former Coach: Joe Tiller
Last Seen: Assisting Tiller as Purdue's coach-in-waiting
Reason to like the hire: The Boilermakers may have written the coach-in-waiting blueprint for other schools to follow. They found their successor to Tiller a year ago, brought him on board, and got him up to speed with the personnel and the program. Now, Hope can spend his first season navigating a much flatter learning curve. Think Wisconsin?s Bret Bielema in 2006. He?s no stranger to Purdue, having coached the O-line from 1997-2001, and had a successful five-year stretch as the head coach of Eastern Kentucky.
Reason to question the hire: The Big Ten might be down a bit, but it's not the Ohio Valley Conference. Hope will find the leap from Eastern Kentucky to West Lafayette to be a big one that's littered with all kinds of new challenges and hurdles. In Richmond, his defenses were a periodic liability, which is a concern for a Boiler team that's been way too vulnerable for way too long on that side of the ball.
The Early Hunch: By hiring Hope a year before his official start date, Purdue has put the coach in the best possible position to succeed right away. His rugged, blue-collar approach to the game should find a receptive audience in Big Ten land.
Marve tears ACL after Purdue transfer
Quarterback Robert Marve, who announced in May that he would transfer from Miami to Purdue, has a knee injury and is expected to be out until October, according to ESPN The Magazine. Marve told the magazine he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament while doing drills three days after announcing his transfer. He must sit out the 2009 season because of the transfer.
Big 10 Countdown; No 10, Purdue

Two-Cent Overview
Head Coach Danny Hope finally takes over for Joe Tiller and looks to bring his own brand of football to the team. Fortunately for Tiller fans, Hope?s brand of football is the same as Joe Tiller?s. This year, however, the offense will be led by a new quarterback, new receivers, a running back who missed last season with an ACL injury and portions of an intact offensive line. The defense returns most everybody, and based on the increased experience and the numbers they gave up last year, it?s mathematically impossible for them to be worse than they were in 2008.
