Head Coach
I have heard it thrown around a lot in the past couple weeks...

What do you guys think about the idea of giving guys 6 fouls in college...

I watched too many tournament games where it felt like the refs were able to dictate who was on the floor.

They either need to let there be more contact on the floor or add an extra foul...

I understand that foul trouble is part of the game, but when refs are calling touch foul, they make a call everytime someone flops, and struggle to understand the difference between a charge and block, players are going to pick up cheap fouls and takes away from players being able to play aggressive and physical...

I am all for adding an extra foul to foul out, Thoughts?

There need to be technical fouls and suspensions for refs who make the game about them instead of the players.

The amount of ticky tack fouls called (most of which had zero impact on the play) last night was ridiculous.

I heard somewhere that the refs for the tourney games get voted on to get to the next round. That would explain why they call it so tight.....if they miss a call they don't get to do another round.

It's a stupid way of doing things.

Yeah, I couldnt believe all the hand in the back fouls they were calling on Florida in the post, and also that foul they called on Butler when he swung at air was pretty pathetic as well...

They did call a pretty good second half, but the first half was questionable...Both ways...

You are allowed to have an arm in the back just not allowed to extend it, and if it isnt knocking the guy off of his path, but just contesting him, I don't see any problem with it...

the officiaiting needs to be more consistent. thats my biggest issue. it ruined the nba and its erroding cbb.

I agree, I honestly think at times alot of it has to do with the officials, not having the same athletic ability to get up and down the court with the players, and there is too much flopping and screaming that the officials fall for...

I never really thought about it until Packer brought it up last night. But, why is there even a limit? Penalties happen in every other sport, but don't result in disqualification unless it's flagrant. 1 and 1 at the 7th team foul, double bonus at 10 (just like it is now), and after some arbitrary number of team fouls you can choose your best free throw shooter on the floor to shoot, rather than grinding the game to a halt by way of hack-a-shaq. I just came up with this idea, so the chances of there being massive holes in this idea are probable.

i don't know enough about officiating to offer a solution, but i watched a TON of ball this year. after watching all the games i've watched i still can't tell what is a foul and what isn't becuase its always different. something needs to be done about that. the kids can't play if they don't know what is expected of them. i personally favor a ref crew that lets the players play. last night was probably the fairest shake Oden got all year, and look at how he played. if anything you could argue that the refs were letting Oden get away with more than they were allowing from Fla's bigs.

as for 6 fouls, i think that would be a great idea.

sorry to double post but that's what happens when you comment without reading the thread. the reason there is a limit is to keep people from hacking a guy like Oden everytime he touches the ball.

The officials simply suck. They aren't in position, they constantly call anticipation fouls, they expect a foul, not waiting for one to occur. These guys get paid, can't they be held accountable when they suck ass. This is a problem not only in basketball, but other college sports as well. Just make them accountable, it's time for that..

Because sooner or later, free throws will be missed, no matter who's shooting, so there would never be any reason to let anyone drive to the hoop without violence conducted upon their person. The only reason big guys don't already indiscrimately hack the arm of anyone attempting a shot within 5 feet of the rim is because they'll foul out.

I agree with, and they do have an official there reviewing all the calls, but I just don't understand how some of these guys continue to make bad call after bad call and continue to be called very good referees...

If the real problem is that the refs aren't in as good of shape to keep up with today's athlete, then maybe there should be another ref out there.

For me, the real issue is an unbelievable lack of consistency. It has already been stated and I agree 100%, as of right now I have a difficult time knowing exactly what a foul is. This is a by-product of the incredible lack of consistency not just from game to game, but moreso, within a single game.

Does anybody remember back in the 70's I believe, that the bonus in the NBA was you had 3 attempts to make 2? IIRC, the first shot was live, but if made then the 2nd free throw was "free"; if 2nd free throw was missed, you had a 3rd one that was live.

My comment here is just my opinion. It may be hard to explain this about how I feel with 6 fouls in college but I'll try to explain it as best I can. In today's college game, there is a clear separation in who is one of the best players in the country...Oden, Durant, Hibbert, Brewer. With an increased number of fouls given per game, I think fouls are going to become more and more common in the game. Players will think, "Hey, I have an extra foul to give now so I can hang on Oden's arms more and intentionally foul him." If 6 fouls are given to each player a game, fouls per game averaged will sky rocket. JMO
