5-star offensive tackle Devontae Dobbs to visit Ohio State this Saturday

The No. 1 OT will be visiting one of the biggest games the Buckeyes play this season.
As we reach Wednesday, we are now just a few more days away until the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes tackle the No. 5 Oklahoma Sooners inside The Horseshoe for a 7:30 p.m. battle of top-five ranked teams.
Already, Urban Meyer has held his weekly press conference, and insights were disseminated. But as the student-athletes and coaches prepare for the game, there is another battle to be won: recruiting. A bevy of talent will be descending upon Columbus, Ohio this weekend, including the No. 1 offensive tackle in the 2019 class.
A game with top schools brings top talent
Five-star OT Devontae Dobbs (Belleville, MI/Belleville) has been a target of the Ohio State recruiting efforts. The 2019 prospect went to the Friday Night Lights camp hosted by OSU back in July, and the Buckeyes have been in a battle with the Michigan Wolverines for the prospect.
In an article written by Bill Kurelic of Bucknuts, Dobbs confirmed that he will be at the game on Saturday. For the Buckeyes, this is very big news. Meyer’s squad gets the first chance this season to talk with the No. 1 prospect from Michigan, and can make inroads at one of the biggest games of the college football season.
Those inroads couldn’t come soon enough, as the 247sports Crystal Ball tracker has three predictions that Dobbs will go to the Buckeyes, and three predictions that have Dobbs going to the Wolverines. However, the last three predictions that were filed all went to Jim Harbaugh’s program.
While there is plenty of time until National Signing Day 2019, the impressions made now can be the difference maker. So far, 26 offers have come in for Dobbs. Programs like Alabama and Clemson, the last two national champions, have already made offers to Dobbs.
The competition is there, but the Buckeyes get the early advantage by getting Dobbs on campus for a major non-conference contest. Whichever program gets the commitment from Dobbs is picking up an absolute star-of-tomorrow. The Belleville, Mich., native is the No. 8 prospect in the whole 2019 class—and is the top prospect at his position, and in the state.

Also visiting this weekend for the OSU-OU game is five-star cornerback Anthony Cook. Cook is a Houston native, and is making his commitment on Oct. 30; right now, the three schools that are vying for the CB are Ohio State, Texas, and LSU.
Even though the three schools are college football powers, 13-of-15 predictions in the 247sports Crystal Ball have Cook going to the Buckeyes. Nothing is set in stone, but it’s reassuring for a Buckeye fan to know that a lot of the recruiting followers have Cook to Columbus.
Once again, Meyer and his coaches have a big opportunity to sell the program to another five-star prospect in person this Saturday night.
