He'll try, I don't know if he can make enough to keep it too close, the talent deferential is pretty substantial. And with Greg getting better all the time, he's a matchup nightmare for anyone. Carmody is a good coach, and I'm sure he'll try to exploit some things. We still have to play hard and keep getting better.

I think Carmody is a heck of a coach. He does a lot with the talent he gets.
If we get on them right away they gon't get any big ideas. We should have no problem doing that.

I expect Northwestern to put together a better effort than the first game, lets remember that Wisconsin pulled away late against this team at Northwestern, they are a different team at home. The question is if that will be enough to hang close against Ohio State. If we protect the ball and play solid defense, we should not have a problem.

Tim Doyle could barely contain his excitement Saturday afternoon.

"(Northwestern News Network) said we weren't gonna win a Big Ten game," Doyle said. "(NNN) no Big Ten wins. That's right, mark it down."

It would be silly to say he didn't have reason to be excited. After one of the best starts in program history, Northwestern was 0-5 in conference and going downhill fast.

With the specter of Ohio State and Greg Oden looming, the Wildcats might have been weighed down pretty heavily if they didn't get that monkey of their back soon.

I think Northwestern will have one of their key players back for this game.

While I don't think that player is worth 32 points, he's probably worth about 20 or so, especially at home.

I'm saying Buckeyes by 12-15, with the margin increasing at the end of the game due to free throws....

One of the things I really like about this years team is their ability to hit free throws. I still remember plenty of games in the past 5-7 years where Ohio State could have put the game away making free throws and were unable to do so. This year's team seems to be able to knock them down when they most need them.

NU gets rematch with OSU

Northwestern will battle a highly ranked team for the third time in 12 days when No. 5 Ohio State visits sold-out Welsh-Ryan Arena tonight (7, Ch. 23, 720-AM). ''It's always good for a young team like ours to play top-ranked teams because it gives us valuable experience,'' senior captain Tim Doyle said.
The first two games resulted in losses of widely different styles. Last week at Ohio State (16-3, 4-1 Big Ten), the Wildcats (11-8, 1-5) played without leading scorer Kevin Coble and were blown out 73-41. Against No. 2 Wisconsin on Jan. 13 at Welsh-Ryan, NU's zone defense and patient offense forged four ties and 11 lead changes before the Wildcats lost 56-50.

NU sophomore Sterling Williams and the Cats hope to rebound from their 32-point loss at then-No. 7 Ohio State a week ago. NU plays at home this time around, where the team hasn't won a Big Ten game this season.


The Daily Northwestern

This time Northwestern has home-court advantage, its leading scorer and rebounder in the lineup and a Big Ten victory under its belt.

As a result, NU is in a significantly better position to face No. 5 Ohio State than last Wednesday, when the Buckeyes drubbed the Cats 73-41 in Columbus, Ohio.

Buckeyes Travel to Evanston for Rematch with Wildcats

If you saw Ohio State's 73-41 win over Northwestern at Value City Arena just one week ago you probably know that the Buckeyes have enough talent to win again tonight when the Buckeyes take on the Wildcats in Evanston. What is yet to be determined is whether the young Buckeyes are mature enough to understand that winning in Evanston is likely to be a far different proposition that it was in Columbus despite the lopsided score of the first meeting between the two teams. A letdown after the big win is probably the only thing that really can trip up the Buckeyes in Evanston.
"I fear letdowns every day in practice, I fear letdowns in every drill that we do," said OSU Head Coach Thad Mata.

IMO this game will be closer If for no other reason than they have played once. NW will know more about it and make game plan changes to contest better. Add playing there and having their best scorer back and we have a thiller.
