5 Bold Predictions for 2009

RhodeIslandBuck

This guy's a real jerk
After two not so successful years of bold predictions in 2007 and 2008 (two out of ten correct) I'll try my luck again this year:

- Florida will NOT go to the BCS National Championship Game, but an impressive victory in the Sugar Bowl will have some claiming for a split title

- Oklahoma will finish behind Texas and Oklahoma State in the Big 12 South

- Oregon will beat USC in Autzen and have a grip on the Pac-10 title until they lose to Oregon State in their final regular season game and the Trojans will once again take the Pac-10 crown

- Ohio State will beat both USC and Penn State and take home the Big Ten crown, but will lose an unexpected game to a mid-level Big ten team (not Michigan)

- Georgia Tech will win the ACC and look impressive in the process

1. Florida will lose the SEC championship game to a 2 loss LSU team and then lose their bowl game to USC in the Fiesta bowl

2. Ohio State beats USC and Penn State en route to a Mythical National Championship game appearance

3. Oregon State beats USC who is then beaten by Oregon who also advances to the Mythical National Championship game since no one else is undefeated.

4. Oklahoma beats Texas who completely implodes down the stretch to finish 7-5

5. Ohio State wins the National Championship with a 34 - 10 win in the Rose bowl/MNC game.

I agree with this one completely. Something like being an uber-talented but young team. They'll be able to match up well with any team, but being so young might not have their heads in every game. This feels kind of like some of the great teams from the '90's and if TSUN weren't so inept right now, this would be the year they would probably take one.

Illionis will be a barn burner at home and could go either way, I look for them to be quite good this year and that could be the loss, but I think it's more of a sleeper team that comes up and bites us.

I think the Purdue game is dangerous. New coach, their house and hasn't played tOSU well in a while, they might not get the respect they deserve and the new coach will gunning hard to make a big statement. If it had to predict one, I'd say that's our loss, in a frustrating, ugly game. 12-1 on the season with a Rose Bowl win.

Oh, and I like the GT prediction... Go Jackets!

OK, I'll bite. Since we won't lose to either Penn State or Michigan (both road games), the remaining two road conference games are at Indiana and at Purdue. Losing to Indiana is a virtual impossbility and losing to Purdue is very highly unlikely at best. That leaves the four conference home games (Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa, in cronological order). To which of these four do you think we'll most likely lose?

I'm not R.I.Buck, but if they were to lose one of these games, I'd say Illinois or Wisky. Illi may end up with another good year, even though we're more talented than them. And depending on how we do with the power run game, Wisky and John Clay could give us fits. But, I don't think we'll lose to any Big10 team.

Illinois. Illinois and Minnesota both should have explosive pasing attacks. I don't think we lose to either of them but our weakest spot on OSU's D this year, IMHO, is CB. Our offense should be able to put up some numbers this year, but if we have some trouble getting going or some unlucky bounces I think both of those have good shots at outscoring us. Again not saying that it is very likely but neither of these teams are pushovers, nor are UW and UI for that matter.

1-the team who scores more points will be the definite defining factor in picking the winners of each game.
2-the winner of the national championship will come from south of the 49th
3-joe paterno will complain.
4-rich rod will do something sleazy.
5-the national championship game competitors will be debated.

minnesota is going back to a "glen mason" style attack, no? not a wide open passing game. (or so im told, theyll look like nov minn, not sept minn). the spread=minn fail (and driven even more so by the new outdoor stadium)

That Iowa game stuffed in between the PSU and scUM games frightens me a bit but hopefully TP can keep the team in order for that one. With the prep that will go into those 2 games it is the classic mid to upper level big ten trap game ALA the Ill bet/missed call fest of 07.

After 2007, I like to refer to that as the "Zook Position".

Now they're bold predictions

Mine:
  1. Andre Amos, Austin Spitler, Ray Small and Rob Rose will ALL have breakout seasons.
  2. The new OL will be the best of the JT era.
  3. USC will take the Buckeyes lightly and will suffer their first 7+ point loss since 2001.
  4. USC will rebound and run the table thereafter.
  5. In spite of the aforementioned seniors and OL, TP will get all of the credit for the win over USC. ESPN will run a simulation proving that if TP had played for Urban Meyer it would have resulted in a "greatness singularity" causing the universe to implode.
