4-star safety Jordan Battle commits to Ohio State

The Buckeyes have put a cap on their safety class with a star from Florida.
If you had asked me a little over two months ago where Jordan Battle would be playing college football, I probably wouldn’t have said Ohio State. After the Buckeyes accepted commitments from Ronnie Hickman and Bryson Shaw, it seemed that they had moved on from Battle, and decided to go in a different direction.
Battle had been scheduled to visit for Ohio State’s spring game, but when he attended Miami’s spring game rather than travel to Columbus, the writing seemed to be on the wall. However, Ohio State flipped the script in the beginning of May, and pushed for a Battle visit in June.
That push obviously worked, and just minutes ago, Battle announced his commitment to Ohio State shortly after that visit to Columbus. Despite taking another commitment from a possible safety in Craig Young, and landing Bryson Shaw in April, the Buckeyes like Battle’s game too much to pass up, and Battle’s visit to Ohio State today for Friday Night Lights showed him all he needed to see.

Battle is the 13th member of Ohio State’s 2019 class, the third and likely final safety in the class, along with Hickman and Shaw. His commitment moves Ohio State to fifth in the 247Sports team rankings. They sit atop the Big Ten, as per usual.
Battle, a 6-foot-1, 187-pound true safety is ranked No. 170 nationally, and 12th among all safeties. He’s yet another Buckeye to come from St. Thomas Aquinas, one of the best high schools in Florida, as he joins Trevon Grimes, Nick Bosa, Damon Arnette, and Joey Bosa. The pipeline isn’t fully complete yet, but it’s certainly on the way. For any program, that’s one hell of a pipeline to have.
Battle committed to Ohio State over 21 other schools, ranging from Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Florida, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas, among others. Battle is one the fastest rising prospects in the country, and I’d be surprised if he’s anywhere outside of the top-50 players in the country by the end of the year.
