MEN'S BASKETBALL TONIGHT

Ohio State vs. Findlay

Tipoff: 7 p.m. at Value City Arena, Columbus.

Notable: The first of two exhibition games will unveil the most heralded recruiting class in Ohio State men's basketball history. Center Greg Oden is sidelined while healing from a wrist injury, but Mike Conley Jr., David Lighty, Daequan Cook and junior college transfer Othello Hunter will take the court for the first time as Buckeyes. Talent abounds, but coach Thad Matta is worried about everything - depth, defense, playing with a shot clock - and it's time to see how worried he really needs to be.
Player to watch: Ohio State 6-8 junior Matt Terwilliger is Ohio State's primary post threat until Oden returns. He averaged 2 points in 10 minutes per game last season and must be ready for much more.
Next: Sunday vs. Walsh, 1 p.m.

Parker is back, this time vs. Ohio State
Wednesday, November 1, 2006

Do not expect Marcus Parker to be awestruck when he makes his college basketball debut tonight against Ohio State at Value City Arena.

The University of Findlay point guard enters an arena that was his home away from home throughout high school. And the McKinley High School graduate is used to playing against high-level competition.

"It's an environment that's so exciting to play in," said Parker, who played at Value City eight times in three years. He closed his McKinley career last March by winning a second straight Division I state championship on that floor.

Tonight's game tips off at 7. It is the exhibition opener for schools with high hopes at different levels of college hoops.

Ohio State, with its highly-touted recruiting class, is ranked No. 4 in the preseason USA Today Top 25 coaches poll. The Buckeyes won the Big Ten last year. Findlay, a Division II power, is ranked No. 6 in the preseason. It went 25-5 a year ago.

Parker, a third team All-Ohio pick a year, said the Oilers will approach this like a regular-season game.

"You always want to win, exhibition game, scrimmage, it doesn't matter," Parker said. "You always compete hard because you're out on the court."
Parker did not realize Findlay would play at Ohio State when he signed with the Oilers.

"When I saw it later on, I was very excited," he said. "We get to show what we can do against a high-caliber team like Ohio State."

Parker played against a number of high-caliber teams at McKinley, including two of the nation's top-five teams last season. The Bulldogs lost to each in the finals seconds. Parker has discussed those games with his new teammates.

"I told them there's not that much pressure. You have to go out and play hard no matter what it says on the other team's jersey."

Parker feels like he is fitting in well and is eager for tonight.

"I'm going to have 15 to 20 family and friends coming too watch," he said.

"I'm more excited than nervous. I'm anxious to show what we can do against a team like Ohio State."
