Miami's Johnson out, sources say he had surgery

Heading into the Sweet 16, Miami has two very big shoes to fill. Reggie Johnson, a 6-10, 300-pound senior center, sustained a knee injury during the Illinois game Sunday and stayed behind. UM released a statement saying Johnson sustained a "lower extremity injury" against Illinois and his return is uncertain. According to two sources, he underwent arthroscopic surgery Tuesday, but the school did not confirm that. "Reggie injured himself in the Illinois game, had it evaluated on Monday, went to the doctors [Tuesday] and he will not be with us for the trip," UM coach Jim Larranaga said by phone from the team bus as it headed to the airport. ... Larranaga said he had not spoken with Johnson since Monday night.

I think Da U have enough big men that the loss of Johnson won't hurt them that much. He did not see many minutes against Illinois in comparison to their other big guys. I really don't think it is going to make much of a difference.

Yes but any change COULD be detrimental. I had them going to the final

I think the winner of the IU/Cuse game takes the region. Marquette only made it because Davidson couldn't close the deal and Butler wasn't that great this year. Marquette is not a typical S16-caliber team, IMO. Miami barely made it, and probably would've lost if they had to beat Iowa State instead of Illinois to make the S16.

It's funny how sometimes a team dodges a bullet in the first round - Davidson gave Marquette that game - then gets rolling.

The U has been getting their asses kicked from the get go in this one.
