#3 Duke +5.5 at #2 tOSU (Tue Nov 29), tOSU 85, Duke 63

Why are people saying Duke is young? Don't they start 4 juniors to our 1 Senior?

Because people always have an excuse for Duke.

Duke is young ...

Right. Curry, Kelly, Dawkins and two Plumlees have championship rings from 2009-10. The other starter has grown up in the Boston Celtics' locker room. That's a real young, inexperienced group Coach K has.

Duke was tired from Maui ...

The Duke/KU game was last Wednesday. It doesn't take six days to recover from jet lag. And it doesn't take 18-22 years olds six days to recover from playing 3 games in 3 nights.

Ted Valentine hates Duke ...

Nolan D. Smith - Ted Valentine hates Duke... As a ref, he circles the Duke games, it's him vs Coach K... I remember him! Lol!!! It's a macho thing with him!

Doug Gottlieb - Maybe Ted Valentine told coach K, "we are even for the Greg Anthony call"

Paul Teeple - Only Ted Valentine could make me pine for Ed Hightower.

Seth Davis - Coach K on court trying to glare at Ted Valentine. Valentine is in far corner standing with back to Duke bench and arms crossed. Classic.

It's a bunch of bullshit. Everybody has excuses for Duke. I just hope Coach K doesn't fake a back injury to have that game striken from his record.

I didn't even think to check people on this... yeah, they have had much more than enough time to recover... horseshit

Not to nitpick, but Curry doesn't actually have a ring from 2010. He transferred to Duke that year and was sitting out; according to NCAA rules, transfers aren't allowed to get championship rings for the year they have to sit out.

Duke definitely isn't young, just inexperienced. None of the current players have ever had to be "the man" on the team. They were all role players on the team the last few years and were never relied upon for their offense. And you could tell how inexperienced they were in that this was their first true road game of the year, and they definitely weren't ready to match our guys' intensity.

Yeah, I don't think they were tired because of Maui. But they might have been a little flat due to all the hype of Coach K's record and also winning the Maui championship. They also played 7 games over 12 days through the Maui championship game. Probably not physically tired, but maybe emotionally drained. You have to admit that this game probably meant a lot more to us than it did to them.

Honestly, I don't get saying stuff like this. Similar to the reasons why the overrated chant is so dumb, ripping on opponents that aren't TSUN just lessens the team's accomplishments. Coach K is a great coach. Duke has a great bball program. Beat the best to be the best. Coach Matta is showing how great a coach he is and how far this bball program has come. Our team is phenomenal. Our coach is phenomenal. No need to trash the opposition to prove a point -- especially when it comes to someone's health issues.

That is an INCREDIBLE picture!!! Look at Matta's face! Up 20 points and has nothing else on his mind but just burying his opponent. What an intense bull dog. Absolutely LOVE IT!!!

If playing the #2 ranked team in a hostile environment on national TV in front of professionals of your sport, former champions and gold medal winners doesn't mean a whole shitton lot to you... I don't know what to tell you as an athlete.

I think you mean "former champion" as Wade is the only one who has ever won anything.

Daequan Cook is a former 3-point Shooting Contest Champion on NBA All-Star weekend, so the plural is acceptable. :tongue2:

Duke plays in these types of games all the time. Same old, same old for them. Isn't virtually every one of their games nationally televised? Didn't they just go through the drama of playing MSU on national TV to get Coach K the all time wins record. And then didn't they just play Kansas on national TV to win the Maui championship? Like I said, Duke plays in these games all the time.

There's a reason why the Schott was rocking last night unlike I've ever seen it before. And it would have been rocking even if Duke was ranked 15 coming into this game. We were definitely more hyped about the game than they were. We had something to prove (and we, obviously, proved it).

If you don't understand why this game meant more to us than it did to them, I don't think I can explain it to you. It's not all about rankings and celebrities.

What you say is all true but they aren't called the Cameron Crazies for nothing.

True, but I don't think this Duke team has experienced anything like the Schott last night. Not Cameron, but as close as the Schott can get!

BTW, I know fatigue is a lame excuse, but did anyone see how bad Michigan looked against Virginia? They played in Maui, too, and then had to go on the road for a game last night. The same "excuse" can be used for Tennessee and their loss on the road to Oakland on Monday.

We were, of course, the far superior team last night. But the above may help to explain -- at least a little bit -- why Duke came out so flat.
