Jake Diebler and Ohio State are firmly in the mix for an elite big who fits the mold of what Buckeye Nation has long wanted
What a get it would be for the Buckeyes on the hardwood.
The Ohio State Buckeyes men’s basketball team is off to a 2-0 start on the young season and will play Appalachian State on Tuesday for its next game. Ohio State has wins over IU Indy and Purdue Fort Wayne to start the season.
Off the court, things have been going well for the Buckeyes too. Ohio State recently picked up its highest-rated recruit since Jared Sullinger back in 2010 when five-star F Anthony Thompson chose the Buckeyes. Now, the Buckeyes are making a real move to add another key piece to the class of 2026.
Ohio State makes final list for elite center
The Buckeyes are in the final three schools list for four-star C Sinan Huan from Georgetown Preparatory in Maryland. Along with the Buckeyes, the Purdue Boilermakers and Illinois Fighting Illini are in the mix to add the 7-foot-tall center. Ohio State doesn’t yet have a center in 2026, so it would be a big addition and one that fits the mold of what the Buckeyes need.
Three Big Ten schools are trying to land Huan for good reason, as he’s the No. 8 center and No. 72 overall player, per 247sports Composite Rankings. The 7-footer has other offers from programs like Alabama, Florida, Creighton, Penn State, and Mississippi State. Huan took an official visit to Ohio State back on Oct. 10. Before that, the 2026 recruit took officials to Northwestern, Illinois, and Purdue.
Ohio State is currently starting transfer Christoph Tilly at center and he’s been a nice addition through two games, averaging 21.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game so far. Ivan Njegovan is the backup center for the Buckeyes and they don’t have much to offer at center past that. True freshman Amare Bynum is the biggest player they took last cycle and he is a 6-foot-8 forward.
The Buckeyes haven’t had a dominant big man since Kaleb Wesson that they’ve recruited themselves and it’s something the Buckeyes could use. There are just two players committed for 2026 at the moment and the Buckeyes need to add a center this go around. Huan would be a great addition for Ohio State inside if they can beat Illinois and Purdue to land him.
