Philon is considered a PF, not a PG. He excels on the defensive end and can run the court. Has work to do on his shot. Not sure what the plan is at the 3/4 with Royal, Bynum, and Thompson, but I would think Philon would be a part of that rotation.Need a replacement for Thornton (natch), and couple of bigs to replace Noel and Tilly. Don't believe Cupps is the answer, but a 6'8" PG seems to be a hard thing, trying to break a press and all. Be nice for a mis-match though. Have (hopefully) two more years of Mobley, and not entirely certain that Taisman sticks around. Bynum is solid #4, Royal a solid #3, Mobley solid #2. Need some backfilling, and see the new guy getting a shot at #3. Anyway, back to reality....
Anthony Thompson could be a 1 & done, and Philon looks body-wise a similar build to AT, so perhaps they are selling him on being AT's replacement after a year. Plus Royal will be a Senior next season, so between them there is an obvious opening ... after a year. Not everyone has to start as a freshman, it's not a bad strategy to give a kid a year to develop before taking on a big role.Philon is considered a PF, not a PG.
