#25 Ohio State vs. Rutgers, Dec. 8, 7PM EST, ESPN2

Some really, really tight calls on that last play that the refs definitely got right. Thornton just barely got the ball out of his hands before landing and Holden 100% established himself back in bounds before touching the ball.
I’m not sure his left foot was back on the floor before he caught the pass, but I’ll take it.

There’s no requirement to get two feet back in bounds to establish being in.

Section 3. Player Out of Bounds
Art. 1. A player who steps out of bounds under the player's own volition and then becomes the first player to touch the ball after returning to the playing court has committed a violation
a A violation has not been committed when a player, who steps out of bounds as permitted by Rule 7-46b, does not receive the pass along the end line from a teammate and is the first to touch the ball after returning to the playing court
b A player whose momentum causes that player to go out of bounds may be the first to touch the ball inbounds if that player reestablishes one foot inbounds prior to touching the ball
Art. 2. After the throw-in is completed, the thrower-in must touch the playing court inbounds before touching the ball

So, if he went out “of his own volition”, he can’t be the first to touch it coming back in. I don’t know if was reestablished prior to Thornton passing.

But if his momentum carried him out, he just needs to reestablish one foot prior to touching the ball.

I’m surprised they didn’t call it targeting.
