#25 Ohio State 70, Iowa State 67 (Final)

the bucks have beat a helluva a lot better teams on the road than that, with obie, with ayers, with williams, with miller and im guessing lynn st john beat some decent opponents on the road
It has nothing to do with the caliber team we were playing, it was how we came back from being 8 points down with little time to spare and did it with such composure. Iowa State was playing just as hard as any NCAA team could play. We held their 2nd best scorer and premier guard to his second lowest total of the year. I've been a season ticket holder since Jim Jackson took the court and I was 7 years old, so spare me the mockery as I was obviously referring to recent history.

Dials has got to be more physical down low when it comes to establishing position. The matchup zone that ISU used should have allowed Dials to find some good lanes, but we still struggled to get him the ball.

Foster is playing out of his mind so far. He has really taken the leadership role Thad challneged him with and run with it.

Ron Lewis could not have started the night any worse, but a key 3, a nice hanging bucket off the baseline drive, and one of two free throws late meant he ended the game much better than he started. Kind of surprised to see Mayes fail to score.

ISU was 2-13 from behind the arc. I know that really isn't there style, but I was still glad to see that we put enough pressure on them to exploit their terrible 3-point shooting.

16 for 20 from the line...that is just fantastic to see.

So was the final 70-67 or 70-64? The AP article headline reads 70-64 but the body of the text says 70-67. Did they review that last 3?

Ohio State 70, Iowa State 67
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP)-- Je'Kel Foster scored 28 points and Ohio State extended its best start in 15 years with a 18-7 run down the stretch to beat Iowa State 70-67 on Saturday night.

Ohio State (7-0) hasn't been unbeaten after seven games since the 1990-1991 team, led by Jim Jackson, started 17-0 and reached as high as No. 2 in the rankings.

Down 60-52 with 6:39 left, Ohio State rallied and retook the lead, 63-62, with 1:35 left on a layup by Ron Lewis. Foster made two free throws to put the Buckeyes ahead 65-64, and Will Blalock missed a runner on Iowa State's ensuing possession. Jamar Butler's free throws pushed the lead to 67-64, and Anthony Davis sealed the Cyclones' fate by airballing a 3-pointer with 17 seconds left.

Iowa State's Curtis Stinson hit a 30-footer as time expired.

Ohio State led by 3 following a 16-6 run to open the second half. But the Cyclones responded with a 10-0 run to go up 55-48. That run was highlighted by an alley-oop dunk from Rahshon Clark, who caught the pass at his chest, switched hands in mid air and dunked with one hand.

The Cyclones finished the first half on an 8-2 run to take a 39-32 lead. Iowa State shot 61 percent in the first half and freshman Shawn Taggart, who scored just two points in Iowa State's last two games, led the charge with 12 points on 6-of-6 shooting.

Curtis Stinson led Iowa State with 17 points, and Taggart added 13. Lewis scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Ohio State.

The Buckeyes are 4-0 all-time against Iowa State.

We never could have won this before Matta came here.

I love Coach Matta, he has turned me into a huge basketball fan again. Although I give sole credit for tonights win to Foster. Any coach should be able to beat an opponent of ISU's level (they're not bad) with a player controling the game and hitting the big shots like Foster.

Don't worry though, Matta will likely get the rest of my game-balls.....he just might have to bench Foster to be sure of it

10 scholarships

I'm no Dick Vitale, but I count this as a gutty win. Looking forward to more.

Right on.. We faced full court press nearly the entire game in a hostile arena. We stuck to OUR game plan and win with only 10 scholarship players.

I like that a Brookhaven kid comes off the bench and has the green light all the way. Here's to Matta who seems to make a difference every time he calls a timeout.

Anyone want to trade your Shott PSL's for my Blue Jacket PSL's?? Anyone... anyone?

great win by the bucks... iowa state is a tough team. JeKel Foster is yet again unbelievable. Why do Dials and Sylvester have such a difficult time finishing down low... when lewis and sullinger manage to finish much more effectively? Looks like there may have been some fouls, but Dials can't miss that man shots/dunks from within 5 feet of the basket.

outstanding close to the game. Being down 52-60 late in the game, I was worried. Winning the game in that fashion was outstanding.

Speaking of down low...how about Lewis taking on their center?

Iowa State is not the best the Big 12 had to offer but they are a good team and the game was on the road. The game was too late to stay up for here, but I have gone through the play by play and read what you guys had to say.

I get a feeling that some people expected a bigger victory margin, but Vegas and the computer ratings had us as 3-5 point favorites. So, this outcome is not unexpected.

This is what impresses me. It's the team and its coaching. Does anyone remember when we got behind in football and basketball and you kind of knew it was over?

Any team that comes back so late from that kind of deficit in an away game has an inner confidence that is hard to shake. These guys are the real deal. Wow, this is gonna be cool.

This is exactly what I was getting at earlier, and I'm glad you had the same feeling. It takes heart and guts to come from behind on the road, against a quality program. The boys never got rattled and let the deficit slip into the point of no return.
