'25 OH SG Dorian Jones (Rutgers Verbal)

Well it seems like this ship has sailed. I doubt Jones will ever enroll at OSU now that he has reopened his recruitment due to academics. Some have said it could be a 1-year prep school thing & he could try and come back to OSU, but college teams generally aren't gonna just hold a scholarship open for a kid in the hopes that he will academically qualify eventually.

Seem to recollect that back in the day, D1 schools would stash players at a community college with ties to their university to get their academic ship in order. But that cost the recruit a year of eligibility, so they morphed to the prep school route in order to preserve that eligibility. Lost track of what's going on there, as big time schools not interested in wasting a schollie on someone who cannot cut it in the classroom. But there's always a university that without the academic requirements of, say a B10 school, that will grab that talent and put him in remedial classes (or somesuch bunny curriculum (curricului?). But yeah, he's gone.

Help me out here, but thought Rutgers was/used to be an Ivy League school. Ergo a high academic school. Sooo, if he cannot qualify for tOSU, how in the world can he qualify at Rutgers. May be in error about the Ivy league part, but always thought Rutgers was very much high on academic food chain. Am confused.

I can step in here.. being that I have one OSU grad and one Rutgers grad..
Both were virtually identical requirements... some of the highest we dealt with.. excluding Northwestern and Lehigh which were in the mix.
Rutgers is pretty rigid and that even holds for NJ kids. Almost to a person, everyone that knew my daughter got into Rutgers.. congratulated me about her getting into an Ivy League school... most of my friends at the time were non-NJ folks. so your @calibuck perception is validated
